______ Tinlin.  Married Janet Lones [her death cert.].  He predeceased her [her death cert.].  She was born c. 1862, daughter of Andrew Lones (Louis?) [her death cert.].  A Janet Louis, daughter of Andrew Louis was born c. 1868 in Musselbrugh, Midlothian [cen.].  She died 9 Sep 1920 at Thornbridge, Launceston, Falkirk, Stirlingshire, aged about 58 [cert.].  She was a housekeeper [death cert.].  [Possibly Janet Jane Tinlin?  The informant obviously knew little about her.].

Aaron David Tinlin.  Born in [DR] in Inveresk District, East Lothian [SCVL].

Adam Tinling.  Married Esther Rutherfuird on 18 Nov 1670 in Edinburgh [SCR].  She was the daughter of John Rutherfurd, a tailor [Anc.].  They were living in Edinburgh in Nov 1671 [SCR]. Adam Tinling was apparently a burgess of Edinburgh, by right of his wife as the daughter of John Rutherfurd, “bedell” of the College Kirk [Anc.].  Children: Margaret. [Possibly the same as Adam Tinling who married Hester ______.]

Agnes Tinline.  Married Richard Christie, probably on 19 Dec 1756 in Crailing, Roxburghshire [SCR, IGI (wife’s name blank)].  In 1757 and 1765 they were living in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire [SCR].

Agnes Tinlin.  Married John Hastie [son’s marr. rec.].  They had a son John in Scotland in 1820 [his marr. rec.].  The son was living in Glenely, Ontario in 1861 [marr. rec.]. 

Agnes Tinline.  Born c. 1816-21 in Roxburghshire [cen.].  In 1841 she was living in Waterdykes over Roxburgh, Roxburgh, Roxburghshire, working as a family servant [cen.].  Apparently the Agnes Tinline who married Thomas Bell on 20 Dec 1846 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire [reg.].  At the time of their marriage, they were both working as servants at Hopton [reg.].  Cannot locate in 1851 in Scotland or Canada, or 1860 in the U.S. [cen.].

Agness Tinlin.  Born c. 1838-9 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire, (natural?) daughter of Robert and Jessy (Crooks) Tinlin [cen., marr. cert.].  In 1841 and 1851 she was living with her grandmother Agness Crooks in Bonjedward, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire [cen. (1851 as Agnes Crooks)].  In 1861 she was living in Hobkirk, Roxburghshire, working as a housemaid for Thomas Macmillan Scott, J.P. [cen.].  She married John Pow on 25 Apr 1862 at the Manse in Hobkirk, Roxburghshire [cert.].  He was born in 1840 in Eckford, Roxburghshire, son of Gavin and Elizabeth (Dixon) Pow, and was living in Blackly, Hobkirk at the time of his marriage, working as a blacksmith [cert., BP].  She was living in Wauchope, Hobkirk at the time of her marriage, working as a domestic servant [cert.].  Cannot locate in Scotland in 1871 [cen.].  She died 8 Feb 1903 in Ferniehurst, New Zealand [BP].  He died in 1922 in Ferniehurst, New Zealand [BP].

Agnes Tinlin.  Born in 1914 in Canongate District, Edinburgh [SCVL].

Agnes Elliot Tinline.  Born in 1909 in Kelso District, Roxburghshire [SCVL].  She married ______ Davis [SCVL].  She died in 1987, age 77 [SCVL (no district listed)].

Agnes Glispie Tinlin.  Born c. 1861 in Coldstream, Berwickshire [cen.].  Did not locate in 1871 or 1881 census (unless she is the Agnes Tinline born c. 1855 in 1881).  Probably the Agnes Tinlin living in Knightsbridge, London in 1891, working as a cook [cen., says born c. 1860 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne].  She married George Montgomery in 1st quarter 1894 in Chelsea District (Middlesex) [CR].  He was born c. 1858 in Kerdford, Sussex [cen.].  In 1901 they were living in Knightsbridge, London and he was working as a groom [cen.].

Agnes Linn Tinlin.  Born c. 1914 [calc.].  Either her maiden or her married name was Tinlin.  She died in 1973 in Canongate and Portobello District, Edinburgh, age 59 [SCVL].

Agnes Mabon Tinlin.  Born c. 1933 [calc.].  Either her maiden or her married name was Lowrie [SCVL].  She died in 1992 in Jedburgh District, Scottish Borders, age 59 [SCVL].

Agnes Scott Tinline.  Born c. 1917 [calc.].  Either her maiden or her married name was Clemenson McConville [SCVL].  She died in 1986 in Haddington District, East Lothian, age 69 [SCVL].

Catherine Tinline.  She had a natural daughter Elizabeth by Walter Young, a schoolmaster, in c. 1807 [daughter’s death cert.].  She married Gideon Brockie on 23 Aug 1819 in Melrose, Roxburghshire [reg. trans.].  At the time of their marriage, they were both residing in Melrose Parish [reg. trans.].  He was born c. 1798 in Merton, Berwickshire [cen.].  She died before Dec 1873 and apparently before Feb 1846 when her husband remarried [daughter’s death cert., cen., IGI].  In 1851 he was living at Drumdryan House, Edinburgh, working as a gentleman's servant with wife Helen [cen.].  In 1871 they were living in Old Bridewell, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, where he was the keeper of the public baths and wash house  [cen.].

Catherine Tinlin.  Born c. 1811-16 in Scotland (but not in Berwickshire) [cen.].  Possibly daughter of George and Margaret (Dickieson) Tinlin [parent’s death cert. (which one?)].  She married Robert Scott [SCR].  He was born c. 1806-11 in Scotland (but not in Berwickshire) [cen.].  They were living in Lauder, Berwickshire in 1839-51 [SCR].  In 1841 they were living in the High Street, Lauder, and he was working as a draper [cen.].  She is not listed in the 1851 or 1871 census index for Berwickshire.

Catherine Tinlin.  Born c. 1890 [calc.].  She also used the surnames Gallacher and Hamilton at one time, and she may have been a Timlin instead of a Tinlin [SCVL].  She died in 1980 in Martha St. District, Glasgow [SCVL].

James Tinlin.  A chirurgeon (surgeon) living in Canongate, Edinburgh listed on three children’s burial records in 1660 (22 Mar, 1 Apr, 8 Apr), apparently as the certifying official and not as their father [Anc.].

James Tinline.  Born c. 1813 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire [cen.].  In 1851 he was living in Standhill, Ancrum, was unmarried, and was working as a farm servant [cen.].

James Tinline.  Born 28 Jul 1846 in Oxenridge, Coldstream, Berwickshire, son of John and Jane (Laidlaw) Tinline [SCR, cen.].  In 1851 he was living with his parents in Allanton, Edrom, Berwickshire [cen.].

James Tinline.  Born 17 Dec 1862 in Bowden, Roxburghshire, natural son of Mary Tinline [IGI].  [If his mother was the daughter of John and Janet (Bell) Tinline, then where was he in 1871?].

Janet Tinlin.  Born c. 1757 [calc. from tombstone].  She married William Taylor of Chirnside, Berwickshire  [tombstone].  He was born c. 1755 [calc.].  In 1781, 1783 and 1785 they were living in Lauder, Berwickshire [SCR, IGI].  She died on 16 May 1817 and was bur. in Chirnside Churchyard [MI as Tenlying].  He died 20 Oct 1825 age 70 and was bur. in the same place [MI].

Jean Tinline.  Born c. 1833 in Galashiels, Roxburghshire [cen.].  In 1851 she was living in Kairns, Minto Parish, Roxburghshire, working as a house servant in the home of David Brackie [cen.].
