James Tinlin.  Born in Apr 1857 in England [1920 cen. says Scotland, ship record says c. 1854].  Parents born in England [cen.].  He immigrated to the U.S. on the ship “Australia”, arriving in New York in Aug 1873 [Anc.].  At the time he was listed as age 19, from Scotland [Anc.].  Cannot locate in 1880 U.S. census.  He married Jean ______ in c. 1884 [cen., 1910 cen. says 1888].  She was born in Feb 1867 in England [1910 cen. says 1870, 1920 cen. says 1872].  She immigrated to the United States in 1890-94 [cen.].  He was living in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1890 and 1891, and in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1893, when he was working as an engineer [Anc.].  In 1900 they were living in Oswego, Oswego Co., New York, and he was working as a mechanical engineer [cen.].  He applied for U.S. citizenship on 20 Apr 1906, but it was not granted [Anc.].  In 1910 they were living in Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, and he was working as a mechanical engineer [cen.].  In 1920 she was living in Manhattan, New York, a widow [cen.].  In 1930 she was living with her daughter in Manhattan [cen.].  Children: Dorothy M.J., 3 others dead by 1900, 1 other dead by 1910, James.

James Tinlin.  Born 10 Jan 1901 in New Jersey, son of  James and Jean Tinlin [SS, cen.].  In 1910 he was living with his parents in Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York [cen.].  In 1920 he was living in Manhattan, New York with his mother and he was unmarried [SS, cen.].  He married Hazel ______ [obit.].  She was born 10 Dec 1906 in Pennsylvania [SS, Anc.].  They lived at one time in New York [SS].  He was the eastern district manager for Pettibone Mercury [obit.].  Cannot locate in 1930 census index.  They arrived in New York from Bermuda on 11 Jan 1952, at which time their address was 22 Hamilton Place, Garden City, New York [Anc.].  He died 19 Jul 1972 in Palm Beach Co., Florida [SS, New York Times, 21 Jul 1972, pg. 34].  At the time of his death he was living in Boynton Beach, Florida [obit.].  She died on 3 Jun 1983 in Palm Beach Co., Florida [SS, Anc.].  They apparently had no children [his obit.].

Maxine Tinling.  Born c. 1917 [Internet].  She married Homer Douglas Pike in 1937 [AWF].  He was born 7 Oct 1911 in Washington, the son of Homer Douglas and Elsie (McQuillan) Pike, and was living in Spokane, Washington in 1930 [AWF, cen.].  He died 25 Jan 1988 in Spokane [SS].  [She is probably the ex-wife of David Reid Tinling].
