The Tinlin Family of Binbrook, Ontario


This is apparently a branch of the TINLIN(E) of NETHER ANCRUM family

James Tinlin.  Born 28 Aug 1766 in Roxburghshire, probably son of James and Ann (White) Tinlin(e) [CBR, GP (tombstone would suggest 1764)].  He married Ann Brander on 28 Aug 1790 in Elgin, Moray [reg. (as Tenlene)].  She was born 12 May 1771 (see Notes on Ann Brander Tinlin).  He was working in Elgin as a house carpenter [son's chr. record].  They arrived in Albany, New York from Scotland in 1795 [corr.].  He was a resident alien in New York State in 1795 [P&I 1982-5, Vol. 3].  They were living in Harlem, New York in 1800 [Annals of the Forty].  A James Tenland was living in New York Co., New York in 1800, was married, with 3 sons and 2 daughters [cen.].  He applied for American citizenship in Nov 1805, at which time his residence was Seneca, Ontario Co., New York [doc.].  They were living in Niagara Peninsula, Ontario in Oct 1808, Jul 1814 [chr. record].  At one time they lived in Louth Co., Ontario [Annals]. In 1821 they were living in Trafalgar, Ontario [land rec.].  He died 4 Jun 1840, age 76 [GP].  She died 10 Apr 1841, age 70 [GP].  They were bur. in Binbrook United Cemetery, Wentworth Co., Ontario [OCFA, GP].  They had children:

1. James Tinlin.  Born 18 Jan 1791 and chr. 2 Jun 1791 in Elgin, Moray [Annals, reg. (as Tenlene), death cert.].  He married Margaret Coon on 31 Oct 1817 in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario [Annals, cen.].  She was born 11 Apr 1797 in Clinton, Ontario, daughter of John “Stephen” and Phoebe (Carpenter) Coon [cen., LFH].  At the time of their marriage, he lived in Niagara and she lived in Louth [Internet].  They were living in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario in 1822, in Trafalgar in 1825-26, then again in Louth in 1826-1828 [cen., chr. record, land recs.].  In 1851 they were living in Louth and he was working as a carpenter [cen.].  In 1861 and 1871 they were living in Louth with their son James [cen.].  She died 7 Mar 1874 in Louth, age 76 [cert.].  He died 17 Jul 1879 in Louth, age 88 [cert.].  They had children:

1a. Amanda Tinlin.  Born 11 Dec 1818 [Annals].

2a. Phoebe Tinlin.  Born 27 Oct 1820 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario [Annals, death cert., son's death cert.].  She married William Freeman Swayze before 1840 [RLC (Swazey, Swayzie), eldest child born c. 1840].  He was born c. 1807-10 in Pelham Co., Ontario [cen., son's death cert.].  In 1851 they were living in Pelham Township, Welland Co., Ontario and he was working as an innkeeper [cen.].  In 1861 she was living with the children in Pelham, Welland Co., Ontario, but it is not clear whether he was also listed there [cen.].  In 1871 they were living in St. Catharines, Lincoln Co., Ontario and he was working as a carpenter [cen.].  In 1881 and 1891 she was living in St. Catharines without her husband, and was specifically listed in 1891 as a widow [cen.]..  She died 9 Aug 1895 in St. Catharines, Lincoln Co., Ontario, when she was listed as married [cert.].

3a. James Tinlin.  Born 18 Apr 1822 in Ontario [Annals, cen.].  In 1851 he was living with his parents in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario, working as a farmer, and was unmarried [cen.].  He married Elizabeth A. ______ [cen.].  She was born c. 1829 in New York State [cen., death cert.].  He (or his father) was working as an innkeeper in Jordan, Louth in 1857 [Directory of Ontario].  In 1861, 1871, 1876 and 1881 they were living in Louth and he was working as a farmer [Central Canadians, cen.].  In 1891 they were living in Port Colbourne, Welland Co. [cen.].  He is apparently the James Tinline, retired merchant, who died 11 Dec 1893 in Louth Twp., age 72 [cert.].  She died 14 Aug 1900 in Humberstone Twp., Welland Co., Ontario [cert.].  They are probably the James and Elizabeth Tinlin bur. in Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines, Lincoln Co., Ontario [OCFA].  [Her name may have been Elizabeth A. Carter before marriage].

4a. William Stephen Tinlin(e).  Born 9 Mar 1826 in Louth Township, Ontario [Annals, cen., chr. record, son’s death cert.].  Chr. 1 May 1827 in Thorold, Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario [chr. record, RLC].  In 1851 he was living in Louth with his parents, was working as a carpenter, and was unmarried [cen.].  He married Rhoda Morris [cen.].  She was born in 1831 in Clinton Township, Lincoln Co., Ontario and was of German descent [cen., death cert.].    He is probably the Tinline who was co-owner of Boam & Tinline, carpenters in Beamsville, Lincoln Co., Ontario, Canada in 1857 [Directory of Ontario].  In 1861 they were living in Clinton and he was working as a carpenter [cen.].  In 1871 they were living in Clinton, and he was working as a carpenter and farmer [cen.].   In 1881 they were living in Beamsville, Lincoln Co., Ontario and he was working as a carpenter and builder [cen.].  In 1891 they were living in Beamsville and he was working as a builder [cen.].  He died 26 Oct 1899 in Beamsville, age 73 [cert.].  In 1901 she was living in Beamsville and was a widow [cen.].  She died 6 Mar 1902 in Beamsville, age 70 [cert.].  They were bur. in Mt. Osborne Municipal Cemetery, Beamsville [OCFA].  They had children:

1b. George Walter Tinline.  Born 10 Sep 1853 in Beamsville, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen. (1911 says Sep 1855), death cert. says 9 Sep 1854].  In 1861 he was living with his parents in Clinton, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen.].  In 1871 he was living with his parents in Clinton, working as a farmer [cen.].  He was living in Beamsville, Lincoln Co., Ontario in Dec 1879, when he was a witness at the marriage of his sister Emma [her mar. cert.].  He married 1st Ettie Thompson on 15 Sep 1880 in Beamsville, Ontario [OMR, cen.].  She was born 9 Jul 1855 in Clinton Township, Lincoln Co., Ontario, daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Sann?) Thompson [cen., death cert.].  He was at one time the registrar of vital records in Lincoln Co. [e.g. son’s birth record].  In 1881 they were living in Beamsville and he was working as a carpenter [cen.].  In 1891 and 1901 they were living in Clinton Twp., Lincoln Co., Ontario, and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  In 1911 they were living in Clinton and he was working as a fruitgrower [cen.].  She died 30 Jan 1915 in Clinton Twp., bur. in Mt. Osborne Municipal Cemetery, Beamsville, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cert., OCFA].  He married 2nd Elizabeth Beare on 3 May 1916 in Lincoln, Ontario [cert.].  She was born c. 1886 in Hamilton, Ontario [marr. cert.].  He died 3 Mar 1924 in Clinton Township and was bur. in Mt. Osborne Municipal Cemetery, Beamsville [cert., Lincoln Public Library, OCFA].  He had children by his first wife:

1c. George Andrew Tinlin.  Born 5 Feb 1888 in Clinton, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cert., cen.].  In 1891 and 1901 he was living with his parents in Clinton [cen.].  In 1911 he was living with his parents in Clinton and was working as a fruitgrower [cen.].  He married Amy Caroline Stewart on 3 Jun 1913 in Winnipeg, Manitoba [VR index].  She was born 3 Jul 1886 in Beamsville, Lincoln Co., Ontario, daughter of William and Theste (Huntsman) Stewart [cert., marr. cert.].  He died 22 Dec 1948 [Lincoln Public Library].  They were both bur. in Mt. Osborne Municipal Cemetery, Beamsville, Lincoln Co., Ontario [OCFA].

2b. Emma Elizabeth Tinline.  Born c. 1859 in Beamsville, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen.].  In 1861 and 1871 she was living with her parents in Clinton, Lincoln Co. [cen.]. She married John Henry Beatty on 10 Dec 1879 at her father’s house in Beamsville [cert.].  He was born c. 1857 in Matilda Twp., Bruce (?) Co., Ontario, son of William and Isabella Beatty [mar. cert.].  At the time of their marriage, they were both living in Beamsville, and he was working as a mechanic [cert.].  In 1881 they were living in Beamsville, and he was working as a carpenter [cen.].  In 1891 they were living in Beamsville and he was working as a builder [cen.].  Cannot locate family in 1901 or 1911.  She died 31 Jan 1929 in the Lethbridge area of Alberta [Internet].  He died 29 Jun 1932 in the same place [Internet].

5a. Caroline B. Tinlin.  Born 6 Oct 1828 in Louth Twp., Lincoln Co., Ontario [Annals, cen., marr. index].  In 1851 and 1861 she was living with her parents in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario and was unmarried [cen.].  She married Hugh P. Wilson on 24 Jun 1863 in Lincoln Co. [marr. index].  He was born c. 1819 in Saltfleet Twp., son of Hugh and Ann Wilson and had been previously married [marr. index].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in Caistor Twp. and she in Louth Twp. [marr. index].  In 1871 they were living in Dereham, Oxford South Co., Ontario and he was a farmer [cen.].  In 1881 they were living in St. Catharines, Lincoln Co., Ontario and he was a farmer [cen.].  In 1891 they were living in St. Catharines and he was a retired farmer [cen.].  He died 16 Aug 1891 in St. Catharines [cert.].  In 1901 she was living in St. Catharines [cen. index].

5a. Annie Tinlin.  Born 14 Mar 1831 in Louth Twp., Lincoln Co., Ontario [Annals (says 1832), cen., death cert.].  In 1851 and 1861 she was living with her parents in Louth and was unmarried [cen.].  She married James Lee [cen.].  He was born 10 May 1826 in Ontario, son of James and Catharine (Shaver) Lee [cen., death cert.].  Cannot locate in 1881 census index.  In 1901 they were living in St. Catharines, Ontario, and he was working as a grocer [cen.].  In 1911 they were living at 28 Welland Ave., St. Catharines, and he was a retired grocer [cen.].  He died 25 Apr 1918 in St. Catharines, age 92 [cert. (gives both 25 and 26 Apr as date of death)]. She died of shock after falling downstairs on 16 Mar 1921 in St. Catharines, Ontario, age 90, a widow [cert.].

6a. John Tinline.  Born 7 Aug 1833 in Ontario [Annals, cen.].  In 1851 he was living with his parents in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario, was working as a carpenter, and was unmarried [cen.].  A John Tinline, age 17, was living in Clinton, Lincoln Co., Ontario, and was single [cen. index (17 a mistake for 27?)].

7a. George M. Tinlin(e).  Born 16 Dec 1839 in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario [Annals, cen. (says 1841), mar. cert.].  In 1851 and 1861 he was living with his parents in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen.].  He married 1st Mary Clark in 1870 [Internet, 2nd mar. cert.].  She was born c. 1843 in the U.S. [cen.].  In 1871 they were living in Hamilton, Ontario and he was working as a saloon keeper [cen.].  She died and he married 2nd Emma Williams on 12 Feb 1879 in Merritton, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cert.].  She was born in Jul 1856 in Saratoga, New York, daughter of Walter W. and Electa A. Williams [mar. cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in Thorold, Ontario and was working as a stage owner, and she was living in Merritton, Ontario [cert.].  In 1881 they were living in St. Catherines, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen.].  They immigrated to the United States in 1882-3 [cen.].  In 1892, 1900 and 1910 they were living in Porter, Niagara Co., New York, and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  In 1920 they were living in Portertown, Niagara Co., New York and he had no occupation [cen.].  He died in the 1920’s [cen.].  In 1930 she was living in Lewiston, Niagara Co., New York, a widow, working as a house servant [cen.].  He had children by his second wife:

1b. Ella E. Tinline.  Born 17 Dec 1879 in Thorold, Welland Co., Ontario [cert.].  In 1881 she was living with her parents in St. Catherines, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen.].  She came to the U.S. in 1882-5 [cen.].  In 1892 she was living with her parents in Porter, Niagara Co., New York [cen. (says born in U.S.)].  In 1900 she was living with her parents in Porter, and was working as a teacher [cen.].  In 1910 she was living with her parents in Porter, and was also listed in Lewiston Twp., Niagara Co., New York , working as a public school teacher [cen.].  She married Chester Alexander Burns on 29 Jun 1910 in Ransomville, New York [cen., JTV].  He was born 2 Jul 1883 in Lewiston, Missouri, son of Romeo Gates and Sabrina Longstreet (Mabon) Burns [JTV, SS, cen.].  In 1920 and 1930 they were living in Lewiston, Niagara Co., New York, and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  She died 14 Feb 1943 in Pekin, Niagara Co., New York [JTV, Anc. says Sanborn, NY].  He died in Apr 1972 in Sylvania, Ohio [SS, JTV].

2b. Bertha Eva Tinlin.  Born 15 Jan 1883 in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cert.].  She died before 16 Feb 1892 [state cen. (the 1900 census listed one child as being deceased)].

3b. Mary M. Tinlin.  Born in Dec 1887 in (probably Porter, Niagara Co.,) New York [cen.].  In 1892 and 1900 she was living with her parents in Porter, Niagara Co., New York [cen.].  In 1910 she was living with her parents in Porter Twp., was single, and was working as a school teacher [cen.].  [Possibly married Franklyn J. Swain?]

4b. James G. [Lewis] Tinlin.  Born in Nov 1890 in (probably Porter, Niagara Co.,) New York [cen.].  In 1892, 1900 and 1910 he was living with his parents in Porter, Niagara Co., New York, and was single [cen. (in 1892 as "James Lewis Tinlin")].  He married Bernice C. Goodman between 1910 and 1920 [cen.].  She was born 9 Jun 1894 in New York, daughter of Augustus C. and Margaret Goodman [cen., SS].  In 1920 she was living in Niagara Falls, New York and was listed as married, but he was not with her [cen. (cannot locate him)].  In 1926-7 she was living in Niagara Falls, listed as the widow of James Tinlin [dir.].  In 1930 she was living in Niagara Falls and was listed as a widow, working as a salesbook checker [cen.].  She died in Feb 1974 in Niagara Co., New York [SS].

2. William Tinlin.  Born c. 1793 [Annals].  He was killed accidentally on 13 Oct 1818 at the home of Ansley Foster, Innkeeper [Annals].  A riot broke out between some of the inhabitants and members of the 70th Regiment, and William, an innocent bystander, "died by injury done to his head by some person unknown" [Annals, quoting "Paper and Records Ontario Historical Society, Vol. XXIII, p. 53"].

3. Ann Tinlin.  Born 22 Nov 1795 in the United States, and probably in New York [Annals, cen. (suggests 1793 birthdate)].  She married Col. Daniel Gregory [RLC].  He was born c. 1792 in Ontario, of English origin [cen.].  He was listed in Louth Twp., Lincoln Co., Ontario in 1828 [JK].  In 1851 they were living in Louth Twp. and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  She predeceased him and he later married Jane Crysler Stull [Anc.].  In 1861 and 1871 he was living with his second wife in Louth [cen.].  He died 6 Apr 1874 in Louth, age 82 [cert.].

4. Margaret Tinlin.  Born 15 May 1799 in the United States, probably in New York [Annals, cen. (suggests 1798 birthdate)].  She married James Gregory [RLC].  He was born c. 1795 in Ontario [cen.].  In 1851 they were living in Louth Twp., Lincoln Co., Ontario and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  In 1861 she was living in Louth, a widow [cen.].  She appears to have died before 1871 [cen.].

5. John Tinlin(e).  Born 7 Nov 1800 in Harlem, New York [MI, Annals, death cert. says born in Albany, New York].  He married Sarah Jane Hainer on 23 May 1823 in Ontario, Canada [Loyalists in Ontario].  She was born 23 Nov 1801 in Grantham Township, Lincoln Co., Ontario, daughter of Derrick “Richard” and Annaje “Hannah” (Vollock) Hainer of Grantham [Annals (says father was Henry Hainer), Loyalists in Ontario, AWT, daughter’s death cert.].  John was living in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario at the time of his marriage [Loyalists in Ontario].  They were living in Louth in 1828 [cen.].  He was a carpenter [death cert.].  Cannot locate in 1851 [cen.].  In 1861 they were living in Louth [cen. index].  She died 3 Oct 1866, bur. in the Schram-Tinlin Cemetery, Louth [MI].  He died 10 Nov 1870 in Louth, Ontario, bur. there in the Schram-Tinlin Cemetery [cert., MI].  He was listed in the death index of the 1871 census, a carpenter in Louth [cen. (deaths of the previous year)].  They had children:

1a. James Augustus Tinlin.  Born 10 Aug 1823 in Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen., AWT, wife's death cert.].  He married Martha Gregory on 20 May 1849 [CBR].  She was born 20 Apr 1823 in Lincoln Co., Ontario [CBR, death cert.]. In 1861 they were living in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen. index].  In 1871 they were living in Grantham, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen.].  They were living in Moulton and Sherbrooke Twps., Haldimand or Norfolk Co., Ontario in 1877 [Central Canadians].  In 1881 they were living in Colchester North, Essex District, Ontario, and he was working as a ship carpenter [cen.].  In 1891 they were living with their son Eli in Colchester North and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  He died 4 Nov 1893 in Colchester North Twp., Ontario [cen., CBR (says 20 Nov 1893) (a James Tinlin, born c. 1822 in Fenwick, Ontario, died 9 Nov 1893 in Port Colborne, Welland Co., age 71, a farmer)].  She died 6 Jan 1898 in Ithaca, Gratiot Co., Michigan, age 74 years, 10 months and 24 days [cert.].  She was bur. in North Ridge, Essex Co., Ontario [cert.].  She had eight children, of whom seven were living at the time of her death [cert.].  They had children:

1b. Margaret Sarah Tinlin.  Born 17 Feb 1851 in Port Colbourne, Ontario [cen. (CBR says 1850)].  In 1861 she was living with her parents in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen. index (age 11)].  She married 1st Thomas Irvin Clark on 8 Feb 1871 at St. George’s Parish Church in St. Catharines, Ontario [Index to Marriage Registrations of Ontario, Internet].  He was born c. 1849 in England [cen.].  At the time of their marriage, they were both residing in Port Dalhousie, Lincoln Co., Ontario [Internet].  In 1871 they were living in Port Dalhousie and he was a seaman [cen.].  In Dec 1871 they were living in Port Dalhousie [son’s birth cert.].  She married 2nd Richard Francis Allen [children’s birth certs.].  He was born 31 Jan 1843 in the U.S. or Ontario [cen. (death cert. says Moulton, Haldimand Co., Ontario)].  In 1881 they were living in Colchester North, Essex Co., Ontario and he was working as a labourer [cen.].  They had children born there in the 1880’s [their birth certs.].  In 1891, 1901and 1911 they were living in Colchester North, Essex South Co., Ontario and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  She died 9 Feb 1915 in Gosfield North, Essex Co., Ontario, age 64 [cert.].  He died 9 Feb 1922 in Gosfield North, Essex Co., Ontario, age 79 [cert.].

2b. Hamilton Augustus Tinlin.  Born 25 Dec 1850 in Essex or St. Catharines, Ontario [marr. rec., cen. (but this is too close to his sister’s birthdate), death cert., son's death cert. (CBR says 23 Dec 1851)].  In 1861 he was living with his parents in Louth, Lincoln Co., Ontario [cen. index (age 7)].  In 1871 he was living with his parents in Grantham, Lincoln Co., Ontario and working as a sailor [cen.].  He married 1st Roxana Charlotte Echlin on 6 May 1874 in Beverly Twp., Wentworth North Co., Ontario [cert.].  She was born in Sep 1851 in Capetown (or Beverly), Ontario, daughter of Robert and Amanda (Wood) Echlin [cen., IGI, son's death cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was living in Boston, Massachusetts, working as a lumber dealer and she was living in Beverly [marr. rec.].  They were living in Beverly, Ontario in 1875 and he was working as a mill and lumber dealer [son’s birth cert.].  They immigrated to the U.S. in c. 1879 [cen.].  In 1880 they were living in Green Lake, Jackson Co., Michigan, and he was working as a day laborer [cen.].  He bought land in Ogemaw Co., Michigan on 2 Feb 1889 [Internet].  In 1900 they were living in Galveston Co., Texas and he was working as “Capt. Draye boad” (?) [cen.].  She died 8 Mar 1905 [Houston Chronicle, 9 Mar 1905].  He married 2nd Clara Estelle Powell in c. 1909 [cen., SM].  She was born 13 Sep 1869 in Texas or Mississippi, daughter of Alfred Alexander and Mildred B. (Stubbs) Powell [SM, cen.].  In 1910 they were living in Montgomery Co., Texas and he was working as a farmer [cen. said he was born in Michigan].  In 1920 they were living in Montgomery Co., Texas and he was working as a steam engineer at an oil refinery [cen. said he was born in New York].  He died 25 Jan 1930 in Houston, Texas [cert.].  Could not locate family in 1930 census index.  She died 8 Sep 1956, bur. Oakwood, Conroe, Montgomery Co., Texas [SM].  He had three children by his first wife and one by his second:

1c. Robert Hamilton Tinlin.  Born 18 Feb 1875 at Beverly, Wentworth North Co., Ontario [cert., cen.].  He immigrated to the United States with his parents in c. 1879 [cen.].  In 1880 he was living with his parents in Green Lake, Jackson Co., Michigan [cen.].  He married Lorena "Rena" May Gonne on 8 Aug 1897 at Galveston, Texas [GON].  She was born 21 Aug 1877 in Highland, Michigan, daughter of W.H. and Jane Ann (Davison) Gonne [cen., death cert.].  In 1900 they were living in Galveston Co., Texas [cen.].  In 1910 they were living in Texas City, Galveston Co., Texas and he was working as a merchant [cen.].  In 1918 they were living in Texas City and he was working as a refrigerating operator for the Pierce Oil Corp. [Anc.].  In 1920 they were living in Texas City [cen.].  They moved to Houston, Texas in 1921 [GON].  In 1930 they were living in Houston, Harris Co., Texas and he was working as a machinist [cen.].  In 1933 they moved to Beaumont, Jefferson Co., Texas [GON].  He was Superintendent of a cemetery, then worked at the Coin Operated Amusement Company in Beaumont [GON].  He died 14 Feb 1936 in Beaumont [cert.].  She died 22 May 1956 in Beaumont, bur. Forest Park Cemetery [cert.].  They had children:

1d. Alice Evelyn Tinlin.  Born 16 Nov 1898 in Port Arthur, Texas [GON].  In 1900 she was living with her parents in Galveston Co., Texas [cen.].  In 1910 and 1920 she was living with her parents in Texas City, Galveston Co., Texas [cen.].  In 1930 she was living with her parents in Houston, Harris Co., Texas, was single, and was working as a stenographer [cen.].  She married Stanley Orville Neal on 22 Oct 1944 in Ranger, Eastland Co., Texas [GON].  He was born 20 Feb 1911 [SS].  In 1974 they were living in Beaumont, Jefferson Co., Texas [GON].  She died in Jan 1987 in Beaumont [SS].  He died 28 Nov 1987 in Beaumont [SS].  They had no children [GON].

2d. William Hamilton Tinlin, Sr.  Born 17 Aug 1901 in Texas City, Galveston Co., Texas [death cert.].  In 1910 and 1920 he was living with his parents in Texas City [cen.].  He married Martha Reiboldt on 23 Apr 1927 in Mercedes, Cameron Co., Texas [GON].  She was born 6 Jan 1906 in Kansas, daughter of Peter and Margaret Reiboldt [SS, NVV].  In 1930 they were living with his parents in Houston, Harris Co., Texas and he was working as a collector [cen.].  In 1930 they also lived in San Pedro, California [GON].  He died 23 Dec 1965 in Beaumont, Texas, bur. Elizabeth Tinlin.  Born 21 Jun 1802, probably in New York [Annals].  She married 1st ______ Culp [RLC].  She married 2nd Isaiah Wardell in c. 1827 [JD, Annals].  He was the son of Isaac and Mary (Griffin) Wardell [ADRG].  They were living in Clinton Twp., Lincoln Co., Ontario in 1828 [cen.].  She died c. 1831, age 29 [JD].  He later married Margaret Tinline, apparently her cousin (see TINLINE OF NETHER ANCRUM family).

Brook Tinlin.  Born 14 Jul 1808 in Hamilton, Ontario [cen., chr. record, Annals, daughter’s death cert.].  Chr. 16 Oct 1808 in Grimsby in the Niagara Peninsula, Ontario [chr. record, Annals].  He married Elizabeth Betran on 2 May 1831 in Ontario, when they both lived in Clinton [Ontario Marriage Notices (her name is probably a misspelling – there was a Daniel Bartran and a Cornelius Bebram (?) living in Clinton in 1828), some children’s records say Bertram].  She was born 7 Oct 1812 in Hamilton, Ontario [cen., OGS, daughter’s death cert.].  In 1851 they were living in Binbrook, Wentworth Co., Ontario [cen. Ostrander [death cert.].  In 1881 they were living in Malahide, East Elgin Co., and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  She died 12 Feb 1889 and was bur. in Orwell Cemetery, Yarmouth, Elgin Co., Ontario [OGS (cert. not located)].  In 1891 he was living in Malahide, working as a merchant and farmer [cen.].  In 1901 he was living in Malahide, a widower, working as a farmer [cen.].  In 1911 he was living in Malahide, a widower (occupation illegible) [cen.].  He died 1 Jul 1932 in Orwell, Malahide, bur. Orwell Cemetery [cert.].

Edgar Brook Tinlin.  Born in 1854 in Yarmouth, Elgin Co., Ontario [cen., AS, marr. cert.].  In 1861 and 1871 he was living with his parents in Yarmouth [cen.].  He married Mary Elizabeth Jones on 9 Sep 1875 in Aylmer, Ontario [cert., son’s death cert.].  She was born c. 1858 in Yarmouth, daughter of Nathan and Gertrude Jones [marr. cert.].  In 1881 they were living in Malahide, East Elgin Co., Ontario [cen.].  In 1891 they were living in St. Thomas, Elgin East Co., Ontario and he was working as a carpenter [cen.].  He died 8 Jan 1897 in St. Thomas, Ontario, bur. St. Thomas West Avenue Cemetery, Yarmouth, Elgin Co., Ontario [cert., OCFA].  She married 2nd Albert E. “Berton” Hamilton on 6 Oct 1898 in St. Thomas [cen., OMR].  She died 15 Dec 1900, age 42, bur. St. Thomas West Avenue Cemetery, Yarmouth, Elgin Co., Ontario [cert., OGS].  They had children:

Forbes on 6 Dec 1897 in St. Thomas District, Ontario [OMR, cen.].  She was born 20 Jun 1879 in Lucas, Ontario [cen., death cert.].  In 1901 they were living with his stepfather in St. Thomas, Elgin East Co., Ontario, and he was working as a millhand [cen.].  In 1901 she was also listed as a medical patient, living in London Twp., Middlesex Co., Ontario [cen.].  They apparently divorced at some point.  He moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in c. 1901 [MHS (says 1900)].  Cannot locate him on 1911 census.  In 1911 she was in the insane asylum, London Twp., Middlesex East Co., Ontario [cen.].  She died 26 Dec 1927 at Ontario Hospital, Middlesex Co., Ontario and was bur. in St. Thomas West Avenue Cemetery, Yarmouth, Elgin Co., Ontario [OCFA].  In 1919 and 1920 he was working as an optometrist in Winnipeg, Manitoba [Manitoba Morning Free Press, 25 Jan 1919 & 5 Aug 1920].  In 1921 and 1927 he served as President of the Manitoba Association of Optometrists [MHS].  In 1922 he entered the US on his way to Seattle, Washington [Anc.].  He married 2nd Mina Doan on 8 May 1926 in Winnipeg, Manitoba [VR index, CS].  She was born 20 Jan 1882 in Clinton, Huron Co., Ontario, daughter of Henry C. and Laura (Moore) Doan [cert., SS, CS, cen.].  She lived in Kansas City, Missouri from Nov 1906 to Apr 1914 and in 1910 was working there as a stenographer and was single [Anc., cen.].  He died 27 Sep 1934 in Winnipeg, age 58 and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery [VR index, MHS].  In Mar 1936 she arrived in New Orleans on the ship “Contessa” from Cristobal, Canal Zone [Anc.].  She was listed as an optometrist, last residence Winnipeg, Manitoba [Anc.].  She arrived in Detroit, Michigan from Canada on 15 Oct 1936 at which time she was a widow and planned to reside permanently in the U.S. [Anc.].  She had been living at 254 Jarvis St., Toronto [Anc.].  In 1936 she had a sister, Mrs. H. C. Martin of 112 W. 14th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma [Anc.].  She lived in Alameda, California [CS].  She was living in Los Angeles in 1939 and in Long Beach in 1946-54 [dir., VOR]. Egerton Tinlin.  Born c. 1877 in Elgin Co., Ontario [cen., daughter’s death cert.].  In 1881 he was living with his parents in Malahide, East Elgin Co., Ontario [cen.].  In 1891 he was living with his parents in St. Thomas, Elgin East Co., Ontario [cen.].  Cannot locate in 1901 census index.  Apparently the Edward Tinline living in St. Thomas in 1911, a wagon driver, unmarried [cen.].  He married Annie Minerva Armstrong on 13 Jan 1912 in St. Thomas [cert.].  She was born 5 Jul 1882 in St. Thomas, daughter of William and Jennette (Darrsel? Darrade? Durraugh?) Armstrong [marr. and death certs.].  She died 1 Mar 1929 in St. Thomas, Ontario, age 46 [cert., St. Thomas Times, 1 Mar 1929, EL].  He died shortly before 3 Aug 1943 in St. Thomas, Ontario, age 66, bur. in St. Thomas West Avenue Cemetery, Yarmouth, Elgin Co., Ontario [EL, OCFA].  They had children:
