The Tinling Family of Carlisle, Cumberland
This family may have had a connection to the TINLING of STANWIX
family, some of whom were

Carlisle, Cumberland, as the “Wid. Tinling” [reg.].
They may have been the parents of a son:
______ Tinling. Married Elizabeth ______ [her will]. She was living in Abbey Gate, St. Mary’s, Carlisle at the time of her death [her will]. She was a Quaker [Friends reg.]. She died 26 Aug 1751 and was bur. 27 Aug 1751 in Carlisle [Friends reg., will]. They had children:
1. Isaac Tinling. He was living in 1751 [mother's will]. This may be the Isaac Tinling, head of the TINLING of MINORCA family.
2. Nathan(iel) David Tinling. In 1736 he was living in Carlisle and was apprenticed to George Clemason, a joiner [Apprentice List]. He married 1st Elizabeth Turner on 23 Apr 1744 in Westminster, Middlesex [IGI]. He married 2nd Susanna Murton on 29 Mar 1751 in Westminster, Middlesex [IGI]. He was mentioned in his mother's 1751 will [her will]. He was a witness at a trial at the Old Bailey in Feb 1752 [OB]. In Jul 1752 and Feb 1754 they were living in Cock Lane [son's chr. records]. He had children by his second wife:
1a. Thomas Tinling. Born 8 [?] Jul 1752 and chr. 20 Jul 1752 at St. Sepulchre, London [reg. as Tingling].
2a. James Tinling. Born 14 Feb 1754 and chr. 25 Feb 1754 at St. Sepulchre, London [reg. as Tinley]. Possibly the James Tinling who married Sarah ______ and had a daughter:
1b. Sarah Tinling. Chr. 17 Mar 1782 in Acrise, Kent [IGI].
3a. Isaac Tinling. Born 30 Oct and chr. 2 Nov 1755 at St. Sepulchre, London [reg. as Tingling]. Possibly the Isaac Tinley who married Elizabeth Johnson on 18 Nov 1781 in St. Matthew Bethnal Green, London [reg.].
4a. John Tinling. Born 1 [? - page unreadable] and chr. 1 Aug 1757 at St. Sepulchre, London [reg. as Tingling].
3. Mary Tinling. Born c. 1708-09 [calc., mother’s will]. She married Robert Threlkel on 29 Aug 1736 in St. Mary’s, Carlisle, Cumberland [reg. as Thrilkeld]. His residence was apparently Abbey Street Without, Carlisle, at the time [reg.]. He was a tailor [reg.]. He was bur. 9 Jun 1765 in St. Mary’s, Carlisle [reg.]. She was bur. 3 Apr 1783 in St. Mary’s, Carlisle, age 74 [reg.]. At the time of her death, her residence had been Scotch Street [reg.].

1. Elizabeth Tinling. Married John Bewlie, of Mungrisedale, Cumberland, a Quaker. They had, among other children:
1a. Bridget Bewlie. In her will of 1729, she mentions her cousins William, Nathan and Deborah Tinling.
2a. Joseph Bewley. In his will of 1730, he mentions William, son of David Tinling of Carlisle and Nathan, brother of William Tinling.
2. David Tinling. He lived in Carlisle [nephew's will]. He is apparently the David Tinling of Caldewgate (or Caddogate), Carlisle, who was in prison for debt in 1728 and in Aug 1729, along with William Tinling (see the Stanwix family) [A2A, London Gazette, 26 Aug 1729, pg. 2].. In 1728 he was married and had children [A2A]. He was a husbandman [London Gazette, 3 Jun 1729, pg. 8 (as Tingling)]. He had children:
