1811 in Peebleshire [cen.]. At the time of
their marriage, he was living in St. Cuthbert's, Edinburgh and she in Peebles
[reg.]. They were living
in Saint Cuthbert’s, Edinburgh in Aug 1833 and at Harews (Harens?) Cottage, Eddleston, Peebleshire in Jan 1836, Aug 1838 [SCR,
reg.].
He was a coachman and domestic servant [son’s death
cert.]. He died 23 Nov 1837 at Harens Cottage,
Eddleston, bur. 27 Nov 1837 in Eddleston Churchyard [reg. under Tynlin]. In 1841 she was living at Harews
Cottage, Eddleston, an independent and apparently a
widow [cen. (in index under Sinton)]. She married 2nd Robert Scott on 24
May 1846 in Eddleston [reg.]. She died 8 Sep 1853 in Edinburgh, bur. 12
Sep 1853 in Eddleston Churchyard [reg.]. They had children:
1. John Tinlin. Born 30 Aug 1833 in Saint Cuthbert’s, Edinburgh [SCR under Tynling, cen., marr. cert.]. In 1841 he was living with his mother in Eddleston, Peebleshire [cen.]. In 1851 he was living at Pardovine, Carrington, Edinburgh, working as a farm servant [cen.]. He married Janet “Jessie” Stewart on 8 Jun 1855 in Carrington, Edinburgh [cert.]. At the time of their marriage, he was living in North Leith working as a labourer and she was living in Newhaven working as a house servant [cert.]. She was born c. 1827-31 in Penicuik, Midlothian, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Ingles) Stewart [cen., marr. cert.]. In 1861 they were living in South Leith, Midlothian and he was working as a grain porter [cen.]. He was living at Sunny Brae Cottage, North Leith, Edinburgh in May 1867 [brother’s death cert.]. In 1871 they were living in North Leith, Edinburgh and he was working as a company porter [cen.]. In 1881 they were living in North Leith, Edinburgh, where he worked as a steam boat porter [cen.]. He was a dock porter [daughter’s marr. cert.]. He died 8 May 1886 in Leith Hospital, Leith, Edinburgh, age 49, from injuries received after accidentally falling down the hold of a ship [cert.]. At the time of his death, he was working as a dock porter and was living at 65 Prince Regent Street, Leith [cert.]. He was bur. in Eastern Cemetery, Easter Road, Leith [cert.]. In 1891 she was living in North Leith, a widow [cen.]. In 1901 she was living in Leith, Edinburgh, a widow [cen.]. She died in 1908 in St. Andrew, Edinburgh District, age 81 [SCVL]. They had children:
1a. Elizabeth Tinlin. Born 16 Apr 1856 in Carrington, Midlothian [IGI]. In 1861 she was living with her parents in South Leith, Edinburgh [cen.]. In 1871 she was living with her parents in North Leith, Edinburgh [cen.]. She married John Howe on 29 Apr 1892 at 34 Chambers Street, Edinburgh [cert.]. He was born c. 1868 in Lanark, Lanarkshire, son of James and Joanna (Dodds) Howe [cen., marr. cert.]. At the time of their marriage, he was living at 34 Chambers Street, Edinburgh, working as a tailor, and she was living at Sanuplod (?) [cert.]. In 1901 they were living at 259 Leith Walk in Leith South and he was working as a tailor (maker) [cen.]. She died 28 Aug 1922 in Comiston (?) Road, Edinburgh, , age 66, when her usual residence had been 57 James Street, Ailrig (?), Edinburgh [cert.]. Her husband survived her [her death cert.].
2a. John Tinlin. Born 24 Oct 1858 in Leith, Midlothian [IGI]. He died in 1860 in Leith South District, Midlothian [SCVL].
3a. William Tinlin. Born 12 Jan 1861 in Leith South, Edinburgh [cen., SCVL]. In 1861 he was living with his parents in South Leith, Edinburgh [cen. (says age 3)]. In 1871 he was living with his parents in North Leith, Edinburgh [cen.]. In 1881 he was unmarried and living with his parents in North Leith, working as a draper’s assistant [cen.]. In 1891 he was living with his mother in North Leith, working as a stationer [cen.]. In 1901 he was living with his mother in Leith, was single, and was working as a stationer [cen.]. He married Janet Lonie on 16 Oct 1902 at The Manse, Leith [cert., The Scotsman, 18 Oct 1902, page 16]. She was born 1 Feb 1859 in Temple, Midlothian, daughter of Andrew and Mary (Smart) Lonie [IGI, marr. cert.]. At the time of their marriage, he was a master stationer living at 65 Prince Regent Street, Leith, and she was living at 47 Thistle Street, Edinburgh [cert.]. He died 12 Feb 1919 at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, age 57, bur. Eastern Cemetery [SCVL, The Scotsman, 14 Feb 1919, page 8].
4a. Margaret Helen Tinlin. Born 8 Sep 1862 in South Leith, Edinburgh [cen., IGI]. In 1871 she was living with her parents in North Leith, Edinburgh [cen.]. In 1881 she was unmarried and living with her parents in North Leith, working as a haberdasher's assistant [cen.]. In 1891 she was living with her mother in North Leith, working as a stationer [cen.]. She was a witness at her sister Elizabeth’s wedding in 1892 in Edinburgh [cert.]. In 1901 she was living with her mother in Leith, was unmarried, and working as a haberdasher [cen.]. She died in 1936 in Leith District, age 73 [SCVL].
5a. John Tinlin. Born 23 Aug 1871 in Leith, Edinburgh [cen., IGI]. In 1891 he was living with his parents in North Leith [cen.]. In 1901 he was the 2nd Mate on the Ship Glitra in the North Sea, and was single [cen.]. He married Margaret McRae McVicar McLaren Strachan in 1901 in Leith South District [SCVL, his death cert.]. She was born 13 Sep 1868 in Leith, daughter of William and Charlotte (McLaren) Strachan [IGI]. He died 4 Dec 1942 at 67 Prince Regent Street, Leith, age 71 [cert.]. At the time of his death, he was a retired master mariner [cert.]. She died in 1952 in Lasswade District, age 83 [SCVL].
2. Michael Tinlin. Born 11 Dec 1835 and chr. 10 Jan 1836 in Eddleston, Peebleshire, twin with his brother Robert [reg. under Tynlin]. He died 26 Feb 1837 at Harens Cottage, Eddleston, bur. 28 Feb 1837 in Eddleston Churchyard [reg. under Tinlyn].
3. Robert Tinlin. Born 11 Dec 1835 and chr. 10 Jan 1836 in Eddleston, Peebleshire, twin with his brother Michael [reg. under Tynlin]. He died 30 May 1836 at Harens Cottage, Eddleston, bur. 1 Jun 1836 in Eddleston Churchyard [reg. under Tinlyin].
4. Thomas Cochrane Tinlin. Born posthumously on 20 Jul 1838 and chr. 19 Aug 1838 in Eddleston, Peebleshire [reg. under Tynlin]. A Thomas Cochrane was a witness at his christening [reg.]. In 1841 he was living with his mother in Eddleston [cen.]. In 1861 he was a lodger in Livingstone, West Lothian, working as a mason [cen.]. He was a journeyman mason [death cert.]. He died unmarried on 21 May 1867 at 4 Overhaugh Street, Galashiels, Selkirkshire, age 29 [cert.].
