Robert Tinlin. Married Agnes Simpson [son’s death cert.].
They were living in Lilliesleaf, Roxburghshire c. 1812-14 [son’s census record
and death record]. He was a laborer [son’s death cert.]. She is probably the
Agnes Tinlin who was bur. c. 3 Jan 1819 in Lilliesleaf, Roxburghshire [reg.].
They had children:
1. Robert R. Tinlin. Born c. 1812 in Lilliesleaf, Roxburghshire [cen., death cert.]. He married Elizabeth Hasty (or Hastie, Heastie) on 23 Nov 1838 in Kirkpatrick Juxta, Dumfriesshire [SCR]. She was chr. 24 Dec 1813 in Kirkpatrick Juxta, daughter of William and Agness (Chambers) Heastie [cen., IGI]. In 1841 and 1851 they were living in Annanholm, Wamphray and he was working as an agricultural laborer [cen. (1841 index under Ginling)]. In 1861 and 1871 they were living at Annanholm Cottage, Wamphray and were both working as agricultural labourers [cen.]. He died 25 Jan 1874 at Annanholm, Wamphray, age 62 [cert.]. At the time of his death he was a pauper (formerly labourer) [cert.]. In 1881 she was living in Dumfriesshire, a widow [cen.]. They had children (listed in some records under Tinland and Tinlane):
1a. Robert Tinlin. Born [25?] Jan 1842 and chr. 6 Feb 1842 in Wamphray, Dumfriesshire [reg. as Tinland]. In 1851 and 1861 he was living with his parents in Annanholm, Wamphray [cen.]. [Possibly moved to Cumberland and married Mary Patterson (see Dictionary)].
2a. William Tinlin. Born c. 1848 in Wamphray, Dumfriesshire [cen.]. In 1851 and 1861 he was living with his parents in Annanholm, Wamphray [cen.]. Cannot locate in 1871.
3a. Mary Tinlin. Born c. 1853 in Wamphray, Dumfriesshire [cen.]. In 1861 she was living with her parents in Annanholm, Wamphray [cen.]. Cannot locate in 1871.
4a. Alexander Tinlin. Born 9 Feb 1856 in Wamphray, Dumfriesshire [SCVL, IGI under Tinlane]. In 1861 he was living with his parents in Annanholm, Wamphray [cen.]. In 1871 he was living in Inverkip, Renfrewshire, working as a railway porter [cen.]. He died of Bright’s disease and pulmonary tuberculosis on 15 May 1873 at Annanholm, Wamphray, age 17 [cert.]. At the time of his death, he was a railway booking clerk [death cert.].
2. Alexander Tinlin. Born c. 1813 in Lilliesleaf, Roxburghshire [cen., death cert.]. In 1841 he was living with the Simpson family in Earlston, Berwickshire, working as a carrier [cen.]. He married Mary Simpson on 12 Apr 1845 in Earlston, Berwickshire [cert.,CT]. She was born 22 Jul or 24 Aug 1818 in Johnston by Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire, daughter of John and Mary (Cowan) Simpson [cen., her death cert., IGI lists both dates]. Living in Earlston, Berwick from May 1846 through Jan 1860 [SCR, cen., IGI]. In 1851 they were living in Earlston, and he was working as a grocer and spirit dealer [cen.]. In 1861 they were living in Earlston and he was working as a master grocer [cen.]. In 1871 they were living in Earlston and he was working as a grocer and farmer [cen.]. He died 19 Mar 1879 in Earlston, age 65, at which time he had been working as a farmer [cert.]. In 1881 she was living at High Street, Earlston, a widow, living on income from property and land [cen.]. In 1891 she was living in High Street, Earlston, and was a retired grocer [cen.]. She died 8 Jul 1894 in Earlston, age 74 [cert.]. They had children:
1a. John Tinlin. Chr. 10 May 1846 in Earlston, Berwickshire [SCR]. In 1851 and 1861 he was living with his parents in Earlston [cen.]. In 1871 he was living with his parents in Earlston, was working as an agricultural labourer, and was unmarried [cen.]. Cannot locate in 1881, 1891 or 1901.
2a. Agnes Tinlin. Chr. 16 Jan 1848 in Earlston, Berwickshire [SCR]. In 1851 and 1861 she was living with her parents in Earlston [cen.]. In 1871 she was working as a servant in Earlston [cen.]. In 1881 and 1891 she was living with her mother in Earlston and was unmarried, in 1891 working as a woollen weaver [cen.]. In 1901 she was living at 35 High Street, Earlston, was unmarried, and was living on own means [cen.]. She died in 1928 in Earlston District, age 79 [SCVL].
3a. Janet Tinlin. Chr. 1 Sep 1850 in Earlston, Berwickshire [SCR]. In 1851 and 1861 she was living with her parents in Earlston [cen.]. She died in 1864 in Earlston District [SCVL].
4a. Mary Cowan Tinlin(e). Chr. 2 Apr 1854 in Earlston, Berwickshire [cen., SCR]. In 1861 and 1871 she was living with her parents in Earlston [cen.]. In 1881 and 1891 she was living with her mother in Earlston, working as a dressmaker [cen.]. In 1901 she was living at 35 High Street, Earlston, was unmarried, and was living on own means [cen.]. She died 26 Dec 1915 in Earlston, age 60 [SCVL, The Scotsman, 27 Dec 1915, page 10].
5a. Euphemia Tinlin. Born 21 Sep 1857 in Earlston, Berwickshire [IGI]. In 1861 and 1871 she was living with her parents in Earlston [cen.]. She died 1 Jun 1876 in Earlston, age 18 [SCVL, The Scotsman, 3 Jun 1876, page 12]. There are papers regarding her death or will at the Greenlaw Court [Internet].
6a. Jane Tinlin. Born 17 Jan 1860 in Earlston, Berwickshire [IGI]. In 1861 and 1871 she was living with her parents in Earlston [cen.]. She died in 1873 in Earlston District, age 13 [SCVL]. There is some sort of legal document for her in the Duns Sheriff Court dated 24 Nov 1873 [Internet].
