The Tinling Widdrington Family
This is a branch of the TINLING of MINORCA family.
On 3 Mar 1809, Lt.-Gen. Sir David Latimer Tinling assumed the
surname Widdrington in addition to his own by Royal License. His wife, Sarah Teesdale, had assumed
that surname on 3 May 1798, as a condition of the will of her uncle Nathaniel Widdrington, of whom she was one of the two co-heiresses
[London Gazette, 16 Jun 1798]. By condition
of the 1809 Royal License, their children
and descendants thereafter were to use the surname Widdrington only. Sir David and his
wife Sarah had children as follows:
1. George John Widdrington (Tinling) Widdrington, Major. Born 22 Nov 1787 in Sennicotts, Chichester, Sussex, the home of his mother’s family [DLTW, GW, HF]. He was chr. 11 Dec 1787 at All Saints’, Chichester, Sussex [reg.]. He entered the British Army at the age of 9 in 1796, and was a Lieutenant from 5 Aug 1799 in the 17th Regiment of Foot [AL]. In 1802 he was a “Capt.-Lt.” and was placed on the Irish half pay, then was a Captain from 29 Oct 1802, entering the 34th “Cumberland” Regiment of Foot on 9 May 1805 [AL]. In Mar 1809 he was a Captain in the 34th Regiment [London Gazette, 28 Feb 1809, pg. 1]. He was promoted to Major and transferred to the 83rd Regiment on 6 Aug 1811 [London Gazette, 3 Aug 1811]. He died unmarried on 30 Jun 1813 from wounds received at the Battle of Vittoria in Spain, and was bur. “in the garden of a convent in the city” (apparently referring to Vittoria) [DLTW]. Vittoria is now spelled Vitoria.
2. Louisa Georgina (Tinling) Widdrington. Born 17 Jan 1796 on board the Ship Maria [DLTW]. She married the Rev. Dr. Rowland Grove Curtois, Chaplain to the Forces, on 31 May 1821 at St. Peter the Less, Chichester, Sussex [London Times obit. of son, reg.]. He was chr. 3 Jul 1786 in Sixhills, Lincolnshire, son of Rowland and Mary (Dales) Curtois [IGI, AD]. At the time of their marriage, he was living in Alverstoke, Southampton, and she was living in Chichester [reg.]. They were living in Amport, Hampshire in Nov 1829 and in Gillingham, Kent in Mar 1836 [IGI, BVRI]. She died 14 Mar 1836 at Gillingham, Kent, age 41 [Annual Register, Mar 1836, pg. 195]. He later remarried [AD].
3. Augusta Isabella Tinling. Born 10 Dec 1797 at Southampton, Hampshire, and chr. 12 Feb 1798 at All Saints', Southampton [DLTW, reg. (where her father is called James Latimer Tinling)]. She died c. January 1800 (which would have been before the family adopted the surname Widdrington) [DLTW].
4. Emma Matilda (Tinling) Widdrington. Born 1 Jan 1800 in Dover, Kent, and chr. 12 Feb 1800 at St. Mary the Virgin, Dover [DLTW, reg.]. She is apparently the daughter whose carriage overturned at Tunbridge Wells, Kent on 22 Mar 1837 [London Times, 31 Mar 1837, pg. 4]. She was taken to the Hand and Scepter Inn, where she died the night of 24-25 Mar 1837 [Times]. She is not mentioned in her father’s Jun 1837 will.
5. Adolphus Latimer (Tinling) Widdrington, Capt. Born 16 Dec 1801 in Aberdeen, and was chr. at Pear Tree Green Church, Itchen, Southampton [DLTW, HF]. A Captain from 10 Nov 1829, he was placed on the British Half-Pay the same day [AL]. He was a Captain in the 73rd Regiment [Times obit.]. At the time of his marriage he was living in Gillingham, Kent [reg.]. He married Charlotte Phipps Tinling (his cousin) on 29 Jun 1837 at All Saints', Southampton, Hampshire [reg., Jackson's Oxford Journal, 8 Jul 1837]. They were in Swansea, Glamorganshire by Oct 1842, and on 22 Apr 1843 he and the men of the 73rd Regiment were thanked for their help in fighting the Swansea Fire [Swansea Cambrian, 22 Apr and 6 May 1843]. They were living at Adelaide Place, Swansea in Jul 1844 [Cambrian, 27 Jul 1844]. After about 1846, they lived in Pear Tree Green, Southampton [GW]. In 1851 they were living at Pear Tree Green [cen.]. There is a record for him among the Commissions and Inquisitions of Lunacy, in which he was apparently admitted to the asylum in Alton, Hampshire in Jun 1857 [PRO]. At the time, he was living at Westbrook House [PRO]. He died 8 Nov 1860, bur. 15 Nov 1860 at St. Mary Extra, Southampton [London Times, 13 Nov 1860, page 1, DJ]. At the time of his death he was living in Woolston [DJ]. In 1861 she was living in St. Mary Extra, Hampshire [cen.]. In 1871 she was living in Brighton, Sussex, a widow [cen.]. She died 18 Feb 1877 in Brighton, Sussex [HF]. They had children:
1a. Sidney Latimer Tinling Widdrington. Born 29 Mar 1838 in Southampton, Hampshire, and chr. 25 Apr 1838 at All Saints', Southampton [cen., DJ, BVRI]. In 1851 he was attending a school in Southampton [cen.]. In 1861 he was living with his mother in St. Mary Extra, Hampshire, working as a civil service customs excise officer [cen.]. On 30 Sep 1861 he was made a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Hampshire Artillery Volunteer Corps [London Gazette, 4 Oct 1861, pg. 2 (should this be for his cousin Sidney Henry Latimer?)]. He married Florence Mary Bond on 26 Sep 1870 at St. Mark’s, Isle of Jersey [HF]. She was born c. 1853 in Dinapore, India, daughter of Warman Reid Bond, M.D. of Co. Galway, Ireland [cen., PETW, HF]. In 1871 they were living in Southampton, Hampshire, and he was working as an examiner officer for H.M. Customs [cen.]. In 1881 they were living in Millbrook, Hampshire, and he was working as an examining officer for H.M. Customs [cen.]. He was later Inspector of Her Majesty’s Customs [PETW]. In 1891 they were living at 42 Foxley Road, Lambeth, London and he was working as "Survey" (?) of H.M. Customs [cen.]. In 1901 he was living in Southampton and was a retired assistant inspector of Her Majesty’s Customs [cen.]. He was also listed in Handforth, Cheshire where he was called a widower [cen.]. But his wife was then living with their son Percy in Elswick, Newcastle-upon Tyne [cen.]. In 1911 he was living in East Preston District, Sussex [cen. index]. He died 3rd quarter 1913 in East Preston District [CR]. She died 3rd quarter 1929 in East Preston District, age 77 [CR]. They had children:
1b. Percy Elborough Tinling Widdrington. Born 5 Jun 1873 in Southampton, Hampshire [cen., PETW, CR]. In 1881 he was living with his parents in Millbrook, Hampshire [cen.]. He worked in a bank in London from 1888-91 [PETW]. In 1891 he was living with his parents in Lambeth, London, working as a clerk [cen.]. Educated at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford (B.A. 1896, M.A. 1899) [PETW, Oxford and Cambridge Yearbook]. He married 1st Enid Stacy, of Bristol, on 29 May 1897 at All Saints', Clifton [PETW, London Times, 2 Jun 1897, pg. 1]. She was born in Bristol, Somerset, and chr. 6 Sep 1868 in Clifton, Gloucestershire, the daughter of Henry Edward and Rosina Julia (Deeley) Stacy, 18, Cotham-road, Bristol [Times, cen., IGI]. He was vicar of St. Phillip’s, Elswick, Newcastle-upon-Tyne from 1897-1901 [PETW]. In 1901 they were living in Elswick [cen.]. She died 4 Sep 1903 at Calderbrook, Lancashire, age 35 [PETW, HF, CR]. In 1911 he was living with his son in Coventry District, Warwickshire [cen. index]. He married 2nd Helen W. Dawson on 29 Aug 1911 at St. Buryan church, near Coventry [PETW, CR says Penzance District]. She was born c. 1880 and was from Littleborough [PETW, calc.]. They lived in Great Easton, Essex from 1918 to 1956 [PETW]. She died in 1st quarter 1956 in Lichfield District, age 76 [CR]. He died 13 Feb 1959 in Lichfield District, age 85 (in Chelmsford, Essex?) [PETW, CR, London Times, 14 Feb 1959, page 1]. They were both bur. at Great Easton, Essex [PETW]. A book about him by Maurice Bennington Reckitt was published in 1961 [Internet]. He had one son by his first wife, and a son and two daughters by his second wife:
1c. Gerard Nigel Tinling Widdrington. Born 10 May 1901 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne [SS, PETW, CR]. In 1911 he was living with his father in Coventry District, Warwickshire [cen. index]. Attended St. Edmunds Hall, Oxford University in 1919 [Internet]. He was working as a journalist in Canada from 1922 and lived at one time in New York [PETW, SS]. He married Margery Lince MacDonald before 1 Aug 1928 [PETW, Anc.]. She was born 20 Apr 1903 in Vancouver, British Columbia, daughter of ______ and Edith MacDonald [Anc., BC (under Marjorie Lince McDonald)]. He worked at St. Andrew’s College in Aurora, Ontario [Internet]. He was later a Classics master and Headmaster for 12 years at Pickering College in Newmarket, Ontario [Internet]. He served in World War II with the YMCA and the Royal Candian Air Force [Internet]. After the war, he had a position in the Secretariat of the United Nations [Internet]. Chairman of the Board for the Toronto Bluejays, Chairman of Major League Baseball, and Chairman of Laidlaw, Inc. [Internet]. He married Betty Ann Lawrence on 12 Oct 1956 [Canadian Who’s Who]. She was the daughter of George Alexander Lawrence [Canadian Who’s Who]. He died 11 Feb 2005 in Aspen, Colorado [obit. Toronto Sun, 14 Feb 2005]. Francis Noel Davey in 3rd quarter 1939 in Dunmow District [PETW, NH, London Times, 2 Sep 1939, pg. 13, CR]. He was born 25 Dec 1904 in Croydon District, son of Edward O. He married Felicity Bunny Sands, an Australian, on 16 Oct 1940 at Great Easton, Essex [PETW, London Times, 22 Oct 1940, page 1]. She was born c. 1917 [Anc.]. He served in the S. Stafford Regiment in World War II [London Gazette, 26 Aug 1941]. He was promoted to Captain on 14 Feb 1951 with the honorary rank of Major [London Gazette, 9 Feb 1951]. They lived at Yew Tree House, Streethay, near Lichfield, in 1955 [PETW]. He relinquished his command on the 31 Jul 1963 [London Gazette, 26 Jul 1963]. He was born 14 Feb 1919 in Mena, Arkansas, son of Charles F. and Martha Hill and was in the U.S. Army [Times, Anc., cen.]. They were living in Chevy Chase, Maryland in 1956 [PETW, NH]. He died 29 Dec 1966, bur. in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. [Anc.].
2b. Sidney Adolphus Widdrington. Born 2 Aug 1875 in Blechington, Southampton, Hampshire [cen., PETW, CR (4th quarter)]. In 1881 he was living with his parents in Millbrook, Hampshire [cen.]. Cannot locate on 1891 or 1901 censuses (but he was apparently often at sea and also worked in Australia and New Zealand) [HF, obit.]. He was the Chief Engineer for the Shaw Savill ship line [obit.]. He died 22 Mar 1939 at 89 Grand Avenue, Hassocks, Cuckfield District, age 63 [CR, London Times, 25 Mar 1939, page 1]. He did not have any children [NH].
3b. Hilda Louisa Elton Tinling Widdrington. Born in 1st quarter 1882 at Hartlepool, Durham [HF, CR as Hilda Mary]. Cannot locate in 1891 census index. In 1901 she was living with her father in Handforth, Cheshire, and was a student of music [cen.]. In 1905 she was living at 28 Hallesches, Berlin, Germany [HF]. She married 1st Ivan Hugh Gordon [NH]. He was born 8 May 1880 [Anc.]. On 10 Mar 1909 he became a Captain in the 56th Punjabi Rifles (Frontier Force) [London Gazette, 11 Jun 1909]. He was in the Indian Army in 1912, and in the 56th Rifles, Frontier Force in 1929 [Anc., Times, 24 Oct 1929, pg. 19]. He died and she married 2nd Col. Bernard Gordon Channer [her obit., Anc.]. He was born 7 Oct 1881 [Anc.]. In Oct 1929 he was commanding the 10th Battalion, 12th Frontier Force Regiment, Sialkot (now in Pakistan) [Times, 24 Oct 1929, pg. 19]. In 1861 she was living with relatives at 11 Green Street, Westminster, London [cen. (gives birthplace as Hull)]. In 1871 she was living with her mother in Brighton, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.]. In 1881 she was living at 20 Goldstone Villas, Hove, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.]. In 1891 she was living in Hove, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.]. Not listed in England in 1901. 3a. Charlotte Augusta Widdrington. Born 2nd quarter 1841 in Hull Drypool, Yorkshire [CR, HF, cen.]. In 1851 she was living with her parents in Pear Tree Green, Hampshire [cen.]. In 1861 she was living with her uncle Sidney Widdrington in Coventry, Warwickshire [cen.]. In 1871 she was living with her mother in Brighton, Sussex and was unmarried [cen.]. In 1881 she was a nun at the Convent, Lower Addiscombe Road, Woodside, Croydon, Surrey [cen. (gives birthplace as Dublin, Ireland)]. In 1891 and 1901 she was a Sister of Mercy and the head of the Convent, Croydon, Surrey [cen.]. In 1905 she was a sister in the Anglican Convent, Woodside, Croydon, Surrey [HF].
4a. Mary Louisa Widdrington. Born 2 Oct 1842 and chr. 3 Oct 1842 in Saint Mary, Swansea, Glamorganshire [IGI]. She died 25 Oct 1842 in Swansea, age 23 days, bur. 27 Oct 1842 at Swansea St. Mary [FHO].
5a. Harriette Mary Elizabeth Widdrington. She was apparently the daughter born in Jul 1844 in Swansea, Glamorganshire [Swansea Cambrian, 27 Jul 1844]. She died 30 May 1845 in Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary, Ireland [HF].
6a. Margaret Henrietta Widdrington. Born c. 1845-46 [HF]. She died 28 Mar 1848 at Pear Tree Green, Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire, age 2, and was bur. 1 Apr 1848 at Pear Tree Green Church [HF, DJ].
7a. Emily Maria Widdrington. Born 4th quarter 1847 in South Stoneham District (Hampshire) [HF, CR]. Chr. 28 Dec 1847 at Pear Tree Green Church, Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire [DJ]. She died 3 Mar 1848 at Pear Tree Green and was bur. on 6 Mar 1848 at Pear Tree Green Church [HF, DJ].
8a. Lucy Rhoda Widdrington. Chr. 27 Apr 1850 at Pear Tree Green Church, Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire [DJ]. She died 9 Sep 1850 and was bur. 12 Sep 1850 at Pear Tree Green Church [HF, DJ].
9a. Isabel Octavia Widdrington. Chr. 25 May 1851 at Pear Tree Green Church, Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire [DJ]. She died 4 Sep 1851 in Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire and was bur. 6 Sep 1851 at Pear Tree Green Church [HF, DJ].
10a. Ella Elton Widdrington. Born in Pear Tree Green, Itchen, Southampton, Hampshire, and chr. 22 Sep 1853 at Pear Tree Green Church [DJ, cen.]. In 1861 she was living with her mother in St. Mary Extra, Hampshire [cen.]. In 1871 she was living with her mother in Brighton, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.]. In 1881 she was living with her sister at 20 Goldstone Villas, Hove, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.]. In 1891 she was living with her sister in Hove, Sussex, and was unmarried [cen.]. In 1901 she was living in Hove and was unmarried [cen.]. In 1911 she was listed on the Isle of Jersey [cen. index]. She died in 14 Apr 1944 at Hove, age 90 [CR, London Times, 19 Apr 1944, page 1].
6. Sidney Henry (Tinling) Widdrington. Born 16 Dec 1803 in Aberdeen, and chr. 19 Dec 1803 in St. Nicholas, Aberdeen, and 21 Jan 1804 in Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland [IGI, DLTW]. Educated at Sandhurst Military Academy and Magdalene College, Cambridge (M.A. 1840). He married 1st Fanny Caroline Strickland on 25 Mar 1830 in Amport, Hampshire [Blackwood’s Magazine, Jun 1830, page 904]. She was born 20 Nov 1802 in Liverpool, Lancashire, the daughter of Thomas Strickland, Esq. of Kendal by his wife Alicia Blake [IGI, Blackwood’s Magazine]. At the time of his marriage, he was living at Hauxley Hall, Northumberland, the home of his father, and in Amport, and she lived in Weyhill [Blackwood’s Magazine, DLWT, Anc.]. They were in Amport in Jan 1831 [son’s bur.]. She died 6 Feb 1831 at the residence of Lady Murray in Andover, Hampshire [HF]. He was ordained a deacon at Chichester in 1835 and a priest at Exeter in 1836 [“Alumni Cantabrigiensis”]. He was at St. Leonard’s and St. Mary Magdalene in St. Leonards-on-Sea 1838-40; rector of Walcot, Somerset 1840-58, vicar of St Michael’s, Coventry 1858-63; and vicar of St. Mark’s, St. John’s Wood, London 1863-70 [“Alumni Cantabrigiensis”]. He married 2nd Harriet Holman on 29 Dec 1838 at St. George’s, Hanover Square, London [HF, CR]. She was born c. 1815 in Thames Ditton, Surrey, daughter of John Holman of Chelmsford, but was said to be a natural daughter of George IV, King of England [cen., HF]. In 1839 they were temporarily living at The Manorhouse, Bexley, Kent, but their home was still Hauxley Hall [father’s obit.]. In 1841 they were living at Northfield House, Beacon Hill, Walcot, Bath [cen.]. They were living at Northfield House, Bath, in Sep 1842 [Annual Register 1842]. He was a captain in the 53rd Regiment of Foot [Blackwood’s Magazine, Anc.]. In 1851 they were living in Walcot, Bath, Somerset and he was the Rector of Walcot [cen. (says she was born in Hampton Court)]. In 1861 they were living in St. Michael’s, Coventry, Warwickshire where he was the vicar [cen.]. He died 23 Jul 1870 at 155 Maida Vale, London, age 66 [Boase, pg. 866]. His obituary stated that he was the only surviving son of Lt.-Gen. Tinling-Widdrington [London Times, 26 Jul 1870, pg. 1]. In 1871 she was staying as a lodger in Rugby, Warwickshire [cen.]. In 1881 she was living in Penge, Surrey [cen.]. In 1891 she was living in Hove, Sussex [cen.]. She died 12 Apr 1893 at Athleigh, Beulah Hill, Upper Norwood, Surrey, age 77 [London Times, 14 Apr 1893, page 1, CR]. He had one son by his first wife, and four sons and possibly a daughter by his second wife:
1a. Sidney Tinling Dundas Widdrington. [Almost certainly] son of Sidney Henry and Fanny Caroline (Strickland) Widdrington. There is no christening record for him in Amport [IGI]. Bur. 8 Jan 1831 in Amport, Hampshire, an infant [FHO].
2a. Sidney Henry Latimer Tinling Widdrington, Captain. Born in 4th quarter 1839 in Bexley, Kent [HF, cen., CR (under "Male Weddington")]. In 1841 he was living with his parents in Walcot, Bath [cen.]. In 1851 he was attending a school in Southampton [cen.]. He was an adjutant of the 4th Lancashire Rifle Volunteers, and a Captain in the Queen’s Royals [HF]. Not listed in 1861 census index. He was promoted from Adjutant to Captain on 21 Jul 1868 [London Gazette, 29 Jan 1869, pg. 4]. He died 21 Sep 1869 in Liverpool, Lancashire, age 29 [HF, London Times].
3a. Ernest Augustus Dundas Widdrington. Born 15 Sep 1842 at Northfield House, Bath, Somerset [CR, HF, Annual Register 1842]. In 1851 he was attending a school in Southampton [cen.]. Cannot locate in 1861 census index. He was a captain in the 87th Royal Irish Fusiliers [London Times marr. notice]. He married 1st Ellen Eliza Skeet on 27 May 1869 at St. Mark’s Church, Hamilton Terrace, London [reg., London Times, 29 May 1869, pg. 1]. She was born 9 Jun 1843 at Hill Road, Marylebone, London, the daughter of Robert Skeet, Esq. of London and his wife Jane Charlotte Jeffs [HF, London Times]. He was born 27 Nov 1853 in Quebec, and was a land proprietor and a widower [cen.]. She initiated a divorce action against him in 1916 [PRO]. He died in 4th quarter 1916 in Kensington District, age 69 [CR (should be 63?)]. She married 2nd James Stewart Kennedy in 4th quarter 1920 in Kensington District [NH, CR]. He was born 10 Oct 1864 in Ballymacarret, Down, Ireland, son of James and Nannie (Stewart) Kennedy and was at one time a student of law [IGI, 1891, 1901 cen.]. He died 2 Jul 1923, when he had been residing at Rosetta, Belfast, and at 85 Cromwell Road, Kensington, London [London Times, 4 Jul 1923, London Gazette, 27 Nov 1923]. She married 3rd Sherard John Otway Pole-Sherard-Cuffe, who claimed to be 5th Duke of Pleneuf and Marquis of Grainville and Pleneuf, as well as Grand Officer of the Holy Sepulchre [NH, Central News, Apr 1922, London Gazette, 28 Sep 1923]. He was born 25 Jan 1881 in Highbury, Middlesex, son of Maurice Sherard Oscar and Julia Amy (Heatley) Cuffe [cen., CR, Plantagenet Roll of the Blood Royal]. He died 4 Mar 1934 in Malta [Times, 8 Mar 1934, pg. 1]. He did not leave his estate to her (Pleneuf Court, St. Andrews, Guernsey), so she may have been deceased by then, or they may have been divorced [Times, 17 Oct 1934, pg. 16].

In 1861 he was a pupil at Leamington College in Leamington Priors, Warwickshire [cen.]. He married Ellen W. ______ [cen.]. She was born c. 1849 in St. Pancras, Middlesex [cen.]. Have not located in 1871 census. In 1881 they were living in Islington, London, and he was working as the manager and secretary of the London General Cab Company [cen.]. In 1891 they were living in Bath, Somerset, he was living on his own means and she was working as a dressmaker [cen.]. He died in 4th quarter 1892 in Lewes District, (Sussex), age 46 [CR]. In 1901 she was living in Hammersmith, London [cen.]. In 1911 she was living in Brentford District, Middlesex [cen. index]. She died in 1st quarter 1937 in Brentford District, age 90 [CR]. They had no children [NH].

In 1861 he was living with his parents in Coventry, Warwickshire [cen.]. In 1871 he was staying with his mother at a lodge in Rugby, Warwickshire [cen.]. He married Louisa Mary Sims on 8 Aug 1871 at St. Marylebone Church, London [London Times, 10 Aug 1871, pg. 1]. She was born 15 Jul 1851 in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, daughter of George R. and Louisa Amelia Ann (Stevenson) Sims [reg., HF, cen., London Times marr. notice, CR]. In Feb 1875 they were living at 48 Hamilton Terrace, London [son's chr. rec.]. In Jun 1876 they were living at FitzRoy Villa, Sutherland Road, Ealing [daughter's chr. rec.]. In 1881 they were living in Acton, Middlesex, and he was working as a commercial clerk in a wholesale looking glass factory [cen.]. In 1891 they were living in Ealing, Middlesex, and he was working as a clerk [cen.]. He died 16 Mar 1899 at 9 Inglis-road, Ealing, Middlesex [CR, London Times, 18 Mar 1899, pg. 1]. She was born in 3rd quarter 1870 in Hinton Parva, Dorset, the daughter of Henry Welch, Esq. and his wife Martha Matilda Knight Vick [CR, cen., Times, IGI]. In 1901 they were living with his mother in Ealing, Middlesex, and he was working as a stockbroker [cen.]. He died (by drowning) on 10 Aug 1902 in Wareham, Dorsetshire, age 27 [HF, CR, Times, 14 Aug 1902, pg. 1]. In 1911 she was living in Hartley Wintney District, Hampshire [cen. index]. She died 3rd quarter 1958 in Aldershot District, Hampshire, age 87 [CR].

In 1881 she was living with her parents in Acton, Middlesex [cen.]. In 1891 she was living with her parents in Ealing, Middlesex [cen.]. In 1901 and 1905 she was living with her mother in Ealing, Middlesex [cen., HF]. In 1911 she was living (probably with her mother) in Brentford District, Middlesex [cen. index]. She died unmarried in 4th quarter 1944 in Brentford District, age 68 [CR].
7. Alicia Almeria (Tinling) Widdrington. Born 12 Jul 1805 in Aberdeen [DLTW, cen.]. She married 1st Capt. Henry Pooley, R.E. in 1834 (shortly before 15 Aug) in Brighton, Sussex [PMI, Liverpool Mercury, 15 Aug 1834]. At the time of their marriage, he was living in Gillingham, Kent [PMI]. He was born 24 Nov 1797, and chr. 25 Nov 1797 in Truro, Cornwall, son of the Rev. Henry and Loveday (Treweeke) Pooley [IGI, his will]. In 1841 they were living at Springful Place, Walcot, Bath and he was in the Royal Engineers [cen.]. They had no children and he died in Nov 1843 in Bath [his will, NH, HF, Jackson's Oxford Journal, 18 Nov 1843]. She married 2nd Edwin Toby Caulfield, of Raheenduffe, Queen’s Co., Ireland, Cmdr. R.N., on 9 May 1846 in Walcot, Bath [NH, Burke’s, London Times, 13 May 1846, pg. 1]. He was born 14 Jan 1793 in St. George, Westminster, Middlesex, son of Wade Toby and Anne (Cope) Caulfield [cen., Burke’s]. In 1851 they were living at 4 Lansdown Crescent, Bath, and he was a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy [cen.]. They are not listed in the index to the 1861 census. In 1871 they were living in Walcot, Bath, and he was a retired Commander of the Royal Navy [cen.]. He died 24 Feb 1881 at Beckford House, Bath [London Times, 28 Feb 1881, pg. 1].
