[probably, perhaps from an earlier marriage] Thomas Tinline.  Born c. 1781 in Roxburghshire [cen.].  He married Janet Davidson [SCR].  She was born c. 1776 in Roxburghshire [cen.].  They were living in Ryerholm (?), Yetholm, Roxburghshire in Feb 1801, and in Sprouston, Roxburghshire in Jul 1803 [reg.].  In 1801 and 1803 he was working as a hind in Softlaw, Sprouston [LBR, reg.].  In 1841 they were living in Sprouston, Roxburghshire, and he was working as a laborer [cen.].  They had children:

John Tinling.  Born c. 31 Dec 1800 in Yetholm, Roxburghshire, and chr. there 18 Feb 1801 [reg., BSD].  He attested to the Royal Horse Artillery on 14 Mar 1823 in Edinburgh, age 22, when he had been working as a husbandman [BSD].  He was a Gunner until promoted to Bomber on 10 Jul 1833 [BSD].  He was promoted to Corporal on 13 Aug 1834 and Sergeant on 12 Jul 1837 [BSD].  He married Sarah ______ [IGI].  She was born c. 1805 [Ships Transcribers Guild].  They were living in Woolwich, Kent in Mar 1835 (in Wellington Street), Nov 1836 (in Mulgrave Place), and Apr 1839 (in Mulgrave Place) [daughters' chr.].  He was convicted by a Court Martial on 29 Jul 1839 for being drunk on duty and confined to his room for one week [BSD].  They were living at the Barracks and at Camp Street, Leeds, Yorkshire in Oct 1839 (when he was a Sergeant) and in early 1841 [daughters’ death certs., CR].  Cannot locate on 1841 census.  They were living in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in Jul 1842, when he was a sergeant in the Royal Artillery, living at the Barracks [BT].  He was promoted to Staff Serjeant and Serjeant Major on 12 Jul 1843 [BSD].  He left the Army at Woolwich on 14 Jul 1846 as unfit for further service due to severe rheumatism [BSD, age 45 years and 195 days].  In 1849 they traveled from England to Sydney, Australia aboard the Ship “Kate” with son Stephen [Ships Transcribers Guild].  They lived in Hinton, New South Wales [Maitland Mercury, 30 Mar 1850].  He died 13 Jul 1857, age 57, bur. 3b. Mary Tinling.  Born 4 Mar 1839, and chr. 12 Apr 1839 at St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, Kent [reg., CR – Regimental Birth Indices Supplement].  She died of “decay” on 10 Oct 1839 at Camp Street, Leeds, Yorkshire, age six months [cert.].

4b. Sarah Tinling.  Born 4th quarter 1840 in Leeds District [CR, also Regimental Birth Indices Supplement].  She died 2nd quarter 1841 in Leeds District (West Yorkshire) [CR].

Stephen Tinling.  Born 3rd quarter 1842 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and chr. 25 Jul 1842 in Saint Andrew’s, Newcastle-upon-Tyne [CR, also Regimental Birth Indices Supplement, BT].  Traveled with his parents from England to Sydney, Australia aboard the Ship “Kate” in 1849 [Ships Transcribers Guild].  He died 27 Mar 1850, age 7 years and 8 months, after being kicked in the head by a horse, bur. Betty Tinline.  Born 1 Jul 1803 in Sprouston, Roxburghshire and chr. there on 17 Jul 1803 [reg.].  She married William Nichol [CBR].  He was born c. 1796, son of William and Elizabeth (Wood) Nichol [calc., CBR].  In 1823 they were living in Edinburgh [CBR].  In 1861 and 1871 they were living in Harwich Township, Kent Co., Ontario and he was working as a farmer [cen.].  He died in 1879 in Harwich Township, Ontario [CBR].  In 1881 she was living in Chatham, Kent Co., Ontario, a widow [cen.].  She could be the Betsy Nichol who died in 1889 in Kent Co., Ontario [Anc.].

3a. [probably] Thomas Tinling.  Born c. 18 Apr 1813 in Sprouston, Roxburghshire [BSD, calc., Deaths in the Melbourne Hospital].  He attested to the Royal Horse Artillery on 3 Apr 1832 in Berwick, Berwickshire, age 19 and was made a Gunner [BSD].  On 13 Jul 1836 he was promoted to Bombardier [BSD].  On 10 Jan 1838 he was promoted to Corporal [BSD].  He married Isabella Dunbar on 27 Apr 1838 at St. Alphege, Greenwich, Kent [cert.].  She was born c. 1819 in Scotland, daughter of David and Isabella Dunbar [marr. cert., calc., AVRI, MGS].  At the time of their marriage, they were both living in Nelson Street, Greenwich, and he was a corporal in the Royal Horse Artillery [cert.].  They were living in Woolwich, Kent in Jun 1839 (in Wellington Street), Sep 1841 (in Mulgrave Place), and in Feb 1844 (in the Royal Artillery Barracks) [children's reg.].  Cannot locate on 1841 census.  On 14 Apr 1842 he was promoted to Sergeant [BSD].  On 20 Mar 1846 he was convicted by court martial of being drunk while on stable duty, was confined to his room for three weeks, and was reduced in rank and pay to a Gunner [BSD].  Cannot locate on 1851 census.  He left the service on 12 Jul 1853 at Woolwich, being unfit for further service from chronic rheumatism [BSD, age 40 years and 85 days].  They immigrated to Victoria, Australia on the ship James Fernie in Mar 1857 with children Thomas, Elizabeth, and David [Internet].  He died 12 Apr 1875 in the Melbourne Hospital, Victoria [Deaths in the Melbourne Hospital].  She is probably the Isabella Tinling who married Peter Ignatius Hweisel in 1879 in Victoria [AVRI].  She died in 1889 in Snapper Point, Australia [MGS – as Isabella Tinling?, age 78?].  They had children:

Elizabeth Tinling.  Born 5 Feb 1844, and chr. 23 Feb 1844 in St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich, Kent [reg., CR – Regimental Birth Indices Supplement].  She immigrated with her parents to Victoria, Australia on the ship James Fernie in Mar 1857 [Internet].  She married John Unthank in 1872 in Kent, Victoria, Australia [AVRI].  He was born in 1836, son of William and Sarah (Burdon) Unthank [MS].  She died 27 Jun 1919 in “Ncote”, Hastings/Tyabb, Victoria, Australia, age 75 [MGS, AF].

(too many to choose from in IGI)].  In 1816 they were living in Roxburgh, Roxburghshire, in 1818 in Newton, Midlothian, in 1823-25 in Kelso, Roxburghshire, and in 1829-32 in Coldstream, Berwickshire [SCR].  In 1841 they were living in Yetholm, Roxburghshire, and he was working as an agricultural laborer [cen.].  She apparently died before 1851 [cen.].  In 1851 he was living in Kirk-Yetholm, Roxburghshire, a pauper (former agriculatural labourer) [cen.].

3. John Tinlin.  Born c. 1791 in Sprouston, Roxburghshire [JT, cen., calc.].  He married Janet Hume c. 1821 [JT].  She was born 21 Aug 1796 in Roxburgh Parish, Roxburghshire, daughter of Walter Hume [JT].  They were living at Newtown, Roxburgh in 1821 [reg.].  She died 20 Jun 1835 at Linton Bankhead and was bur. in Roxburgh Cemetery [JT].  In 1841 he was living in Linton Bankhead, and was working as an agricultural labourer [cen.].  In 1851 and 1861 he was living in Linton Bankhead, was a widower, and was working as a farm steward [cen.].  He died 22 Mar 1868 at Wallace Nick (?), Kelso, Roxburghshire, age 77, having been seriously hurt by a fall while suffering from exhaustion [cert.].  They had children:

Alice Tinlin.  Born 16 Feb 1864 in Chester Grange, Ancrum, Roxburghshire [cert. as Alison].  She was adopted by her Tinlin grandparents, Thomas and Beatrice Ann (Wilson) Tinlin, and was raised as their child.  On the census she lists her birthplace as Legerwood, Berwickshire [cen.].  In 1871 she was living with her parents and grandparents in Legerwood [cen.].  In 1881 she was living in Linton, Roxburghshire and working as a domestic servant [cen.].  She married James Oliver on 29 Jul 1887 at The German Church, Bellevue, Edinburgh [cert.].  He was born c. 1864 in Makerston, Roxburghshire, son of George and Jane (?) (Johnstone) Oliver [marr. cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was living at No. 42, Hope (?) Market Street, Kelso, working as a journeyman joiner, and she was living at Salore (?) Beatrice Tinlin.  Born 3 May 1862 in Ancrum, Roxburghshire [cen., JT, 1871 and 1901 cen. say Jedburgh].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Legerwood, Berwickshire [cen.].  In 1881 she was unmarried and living in Earlston, Berwickshire, working as a domestic servant to Ralph Dodds [cen.].  In 1891 she was living with her parents in Mertoun, Berwickshire and had no occupation [cen.].  In 1901 she was living with her siblings in Oxnam, Roxburghshire, was unmarried, and working as a housekeeper [cen.].  She died unmarried on 11 Jul 1910 at the Poorhouse, Jedburgh, age 46, from epilepsy [cert. Jane Tinlin.  Born 1822-23 in Roxburgh, Roxburghshire [cen., death cert.].  In 1841 she was living with her father in Linton Bankhead, Roxburghshire [cen.].  She married William Robson (banns in Linton, Roxburghshire on 19 and 26 May 1844) on 31 May 1844 in Morebattle, Roxburghshire [reg., SCR].  He was born c. 1809 in Yetholm, Roxburghshire [cen.].  At the time of their marriage, he was residing in Eckford, Roxburghshire and she was residing in Linton Bankhead [reg.].  They were living in Linton in 1845 and in Morebattle from 1845-61, when he was a steward at Cowbog [SCR, reg.].  In 1851 they were living at Cowbog, Morebattle and he was working as an agricultural labourer [cen.].  In 1861 they were living at Marfield, Eckford, and he was working as an agricultural labourer [cen.].  He died before 1871 [her death cert., cen.].  In 1871 she was living at 7 Hallrule Cottages, Hobkirk, Roxburghshire, a widow [cen.].  In 1881 she was living with her son and his family at 105 St. Leonards Street, Edinburgh St. Cuthberts [cen.].  In 1891 she was living at 36 Lutton Place, Edinburgh St. Cuthberts, working as a housekeeper [cen.].  In 1901 she was living at the same address [cen.].  She died 11 Jun 1902 at 36 Lutton Place, Edinburgh, age 79 [cert.].

She married John “Jock” Lunn on 19 May 1871 in Oxnam [JT, IGI].  He was born in 1849 in Hobkirk, Roxburghshire or in Eskdale Moor or Dumfries, Dumfrieshire [JT, cen. Mary Douglas Tinlin.  Born 22 Sep 1856 in Oxnam, Roxburghshire [JT].  In 1861 she was living with her parents in Pennymuir, Oxnam [cen.].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Pennymuir, Oxnam [cen.].  She had a natural daughter by her future husband Robert Renton in Oct 1878 in Inveresk, Edinburgh [cert.].  At the time he was working for the railway and she was working as a domestic servant and living in Pennymuir, Oxnam [cert.].  She married Robert Purves Renton in 1878 in Inveresk District [JT, SCVL].  He was born c. 1855 in Coldstream, Berwickshire [cen. (1901 says Duns, Berwickshire)].  In 1881 they were living in Duddingston, Midlothian, and he was working as a telegraph signalman [cen.].  In 1891 they were living at 4 Sunnybank Place, South Leith, Midlothian and he was working as a railway servant driver [cen.].  In 1901 they were living at Crystal Mount, Dalkeith, Midlothian and he was working as a bailer fireman [cen.].  She died 6 Jun 1920 [JT].

Agnes Jane Tinlin.  Born 30 Jul 1860 in Hownam, Roxburghshire [JT, cen., IGI].  In 1861 she was living with her parents in Pennymuir, Oxnam [cen.].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Pennymuir, Oxnam [cen.].  In 1881 she was unmarried and living with her father in Oxnam, Roxburghshire [cen.].  She married James Elliot on 9 Jun 1882 in Jedburgh District [JT, SCVL].  He was born in 1857 in Hawick, Roxburghshire, (possibly son of Robert and Margaret Elliot) [JT, cen.].  In 1891 they were living at Fernieherst Mill, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire and he was working as a farmer [cen. Andrew Tinlin(e).  Born 13 May 1887 in Haymount, Makerston, Roxburghshire [cert.].  In 1901 he was living with his grandfather (George Tinlin) in Craigmillar, Liberton, Midlothian [cen.].  In 1907 he was a witness at his uncle George Tinlin’s marriage in Edinburgh [cert.].  He was a joiner [death cert.].  He died 7 Dec 1911 in the Infirmary, Edinburgh, age 24 (usual residence, 9 Nation Road, Craigmillar) [cert.].

2b. Janet Tinlin.  Born 23 Apr 1864 in Linton, Roxburghshire [JT, cen.].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Over Roxburgh, Roxburgh [cen.].  In 1881 she was living with her parents in Roxburgh, Roxburghshire [cen.].  In 1891 she was living with her parents in Bonjedward Mill, Jedburgh, was unmarried, and working as an agricultural laborer [cen.].  She died unmarried on 21 Dec 1896 at Howden, Jedburgh, age 32 [cert.].  She had had chronice tuberculosis of both lungs for two years, as well as a ulcerative [unreadable] of her right knee joint for 17 years [cert.].

John Tinlin.  Born 25 Apr 1867 in Linton, Roxburghshire [JT, cen., IGI says 25 Feb 1867].  In 1871 he was living with his parents in Over Roxburgh, Roxburgh [cen.].  In 1881 he was living with his parents in Roxburgh, Roxburghshire [cen.].  In 1891 he was living with his parents in Bonjedward Mill, Jedburgh, was unmarried, and working as an agricultural laborer [cen.].  In 1901 he was living with his father in Craigmillar, Liberton, Midlothian, was single, and was working as a carter in a brewery [cen.].  He married Mary White Hutchinson on 21 Jun 1905 at Hope Park Halls, Edinburgh [cert.].  She was born c. 1881, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Dalgliesh) Hutchinson [marr. cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was living at 9 Station Road, Craigmillar, working as a drayman, and she was living at 13 Pefferbank, Craigmillar [cert.].  He died in 1917 in Liberton, Midlothian District, age 50 [SCVL].

4b. George Tinlin.  Born 21 May 1869 in Roxburgh, Roxburghshire [JT, cen., IGI says 25 Jun 1869].  In 1871 he was living with his parents in Over Roxburgh, Roxburgh [cen.].  In 1881 he was living with his parents in Roxburgh [cen.].  In 1891 he was living with his parents in Bonjedward Mill, Jedburgh, was unmarried, and working as an agricultural laborer [cen.].  In 1901 he was living with his father in Craigmillar, Liberton, Midlothian, was single, and was working as a laborer in a brewery [cen.].  He married Margaret Dodds on 1 Mar 1907 at 34 Lygon Road, Newington, Edinburgh [cert.].  She was born c. 1877, daughter of Thomas and Helen (Minto) Dodds [marr. cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was living at 9 Station Road, Craigmillar, working as a brewer’s cellerman, and she was living at 50 Lawder Road, Edinburgh, working as a domestic servant [cert.].  In Feb 1909 he had the same address and occupation [son's birth cert.].  He was an estate worker [her death cert.].  He died in 1918 in Drumelzier District, age 48 [SCVL].  She died 26 Sep 1943 at 3 Hope Park Crescent, Edinburgh, age 65, bur. Liberton Cemetery [cert., The Scotsman, 28 Sep 1943, page 6].  They had children:

Ellen Jemima Tinlin.  Born in 1916 in Newington District, Edinburgh [SCVL].  She married John Braidwood on 17 Jul 1943 at St. Paul’s Newington Church, Edinburgh [The Scotsman, 21 Jul 1943, page 6, SCVL].  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Braidwood, 7 Northfield Road, Edinburgh [The Scotsman].  She died in 1994 in Newington District, age 78 [SCVL].

3c. [probably] Thomas Dodds Tinlin.  Born in 1918 in Newington District, Edinburgh [SCVL].  He was mentioned in a list of “skilled workmen” in the Post Office [London Gazette of 19 Sep 1941].  He married Pearl E. Taylor in 3rd quarter 1949 in Brighton District [CR].  She died 20 Dec 2008 at Liberton Hospital, Newington, Edinburgh [The Scotsman online].  They had children:

1d. Stella Tinlin.  Born in [DR] in George Square District, Edinburgh [SCVL].  She married David Russell Thomson in [DR] in Newington District, Edinburgh [NAS, SCVL].  They were divorced on [DR] [NAS].

2d. Moira Tinlin.  Born in [DR] in Haymarket District, Edinburgh [SCVL].  She married William James Heatly in [DR] in Newington District, Edinburgh [SCVL].

5b. Margaret Tinlin.  Born 16 May 1872 in Roxburgh, Roxburghshire [JT, SCVL, IGI].  She died of tubercular peritonitis on 2 Oct 1877 at Cornhill (?), Nenthorn, age 5 [cert.].

6b. Thomas Tinlin.  Born 16 Dec 1875 in Roxburgh, Roxburghshire [cen.].  In 1881 he was living with his parents in Roxburgh [cen.].  He died of a malignant sore throat on 20 Jan 1890 at Mertoun Newstead, age 14 [cert.].  At the time of his death, he had been an apprentice grocer [cert.].

8a. Andrew Tinlin.  Born c. 1833 in Kelso or Linton, Roxburghshire [JT, cen.].  In 1841 he was living with his father in Linton Bankhead, Roxburghshire [cen.].  In 1851 he was living in Pleasants, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, was unmarried and was working as an apprentice blacksmith [cen.].  In 1857 he was a blacksmith in Kelso and had a natural child by Margaret Aitkin [son’s birth cert.].  Cannot locate in 1861 [cen.].  He married Isabella White on 6 Jan 1862 at the Agriculture Hotel, 116 Baker Street, Stirling, Stirlingshire [cert., AXT].  She was born in 1841 in Kilmadock, Perthshire, daughter of Benjamin and Janet (Sout) Whyte [cen., marr. cert., AXT].  At the time of their marriage, he was a journeyman blacksmith, and they were both living in Doune, Kilmadock [cert.].  In 1868-69 they were living in Doune, Perthshire [Duncan & Jamieson’s Directory via AXT].  In 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 they were living in Kilmadock and he was working as a blacksmith [cen.].  He died 27 Jan 1908 at 60 Main Street, Doune, age 74 [SCVL, The Scotsman, 28 Jan 1908, page 10].  She died 5 Dec 1917 in Kilmadock District, age 78 [JT, SCVL].  He had one son by Margaret Aitkin and seven children by his wife:

[by Margaret Aitkin] John Tinline.  Born 28 Nov 1857 in Rutherford Mains, Maxton, Roxburghshire [cert. as John Aitkin].  In 1861 he was living with his grandparents, Andrew and Helen Aitken, in Rutherford Mains, Maxton [cen.].  In 1871 he was living with his Aitken grandparents in Maxton under the name John Aitken [cen.].  In 1881 he was living with his uncle and grandfather at Rutherford Mains, Maxton, working as a blacksmith under the name John Aitkin [cen.].  He married Janet ______ [cen.].  She was born c. 1861 in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire [cen.].  In 1891 they were living at the Shoemaker's Shop, Bowden, Roxburghshire, but he was working as a blacksmith [cen. as John Aitken].  In 1901 they were living at Brachead House, Bowden, and he was working as a blacksmith [cen. as John Aitken].

John Tinlin.  Born 8 Oct 1862 in Kilmadock, Perthshire [JT].  In 1871 he was living with his parents in Kilmadock [cen.].  In 1881 and 1891 he was unmarried and living with his parents in Kilmadock, working as a blacksmith [cen.].  In 1901 he was living with his parents in Kilmadock, was unmarried, and was working as a blacksmith [cen.].  He married Annabella Peden on 19 Jun 1901 at the Cockburn Hotel, Bath Street, Glasgow, Lanarkshire [cert., AXT].  She was born 9 Feb 1864 in Galston, Ayrshire, daughter of Andrew and Jane (Kerr) Peden [IGI, marr. cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was a master blacksmith living at 60 Main Street, Doune, and she was living in Burgh Chambers, Dunblane [cert.].  They were living in Doune, Perthshire in 1902 [AXT].  She died 10 Sep 1936 at the Ayr District Asylum, Ayrshire, age 72 [SCVL, AXT].  He died 9 Oct 1951 at Kirklandside Hospital, Kilmarnock, age 89 [cert., AXT].  Their usual residence was 15 Blair Crescent, Galston [death certs., AXT].  They had a son:

Andrew Peden Kerr Tinlin.  Born 8 May 1903 in Doune, Perthshire [cert.].  He married 1st Annie Scott McKnight Broadfoot on 10 Dec 1932 at the Trinity Manse, Galston, Ayrshire [cert., AXT].  She was born c. 1900, daughter of Robert and Agnes (Cuthbertson) Broadfoot [marr. cert.].  At the time of their marriage, he was a labourer living at 15 Blair Crescent, Galston, and she was a domestic servant living at 44 St. Andrews Street, Kilmarnock [cert.].  They divorced on 10 Jan 1947 [cert., AXT].  She died in 1963 in Kilmarnock District, Ayrshire, age 62 [SCVL].  He married 2nd Elizabeth Kinnell Moyers Dewar Gourlay on 29 Aug 1947 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire [cert., AXT].  She was born in Nov 1916, daughter of William and Mary (Harkness) Gourlay [marr. cert., AXT].  At the time of their marriage, he was a sewing machine factory clerk and they were both living at 39 Langholm Street, Glasgow [cert., AXT].  He died 21 May 1957 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire [cert., AXT].  She died in 2006 in Glasgow District, age 89 [SCVL].  He had a daughter by his first wife and a son by his second:

Hodgkins in [DR] in Nuneaton District (Warwickshire) [CR].  He worked for the Rolls-Royce company in Coventry [AXT].  He married 2nd Sarah (or Wilma Deborah) Melville in [DR] in St. Andrew District, Edinburgh [SCVL (she listed under both forenames)].  He was living in Portstewart, Northern Ireland in 2004 [AXT].

3b. Janet “Jessie” Tinlin.  Born 17 Jun 1864 in Kilmadock (or Doune), Perthshire [JT, SCVL, cen.].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Kilmadock [cen.].  In 1881 she was living in Cathcart, Renfrewshire, working as a general domestic [cen.].  In 1891 she was living in Cathcart, working as a housemaid [cen.].  She married William Scott on 3 Dec 1897 in Kilmadock District [SCVL, AXT].  She died 19 May 1941 in Milton Glasgow District, age 76 [SCVL, AXT].

4b. Agnes Hume Tinlin.  Born 23 Nov 1866 in Kilmadock District [JT, SCVL].  In 1871 she was living with her parents in Kilmadock [cen.].  She died of heart disease on 24 Mar 1878 at Doune, Kilmadock, Perth, age 11 [cert.].

Isabella Whyte Tinlin.  Born 8 Jan 1869 in Doune, Kilmadock, Perthshire [cert.].  In 1871 and 1881 she was living with her parents in Kilmadock [cen.].  She married William Edwin Headlam in 4th quarter 1896 in Thanet District (Kent) [CR (as William Edward)].  He was born in 4th quarter 1870 in Margate, Kent, son of Joseph and Harriet A. (Pettit) Headlam [cen., CR].  In 1901 they were living in Margate, Kent, and he was working as a cab driver groom [cen. (gives his birthplace as Doncaster, Yorkshire)].  In 1911 they were living in Thanet District, Kent [cen. index].  He died in 1st quarter 1952 in Bridge District, Kent, age 81 [CR].  She died in 2nd quarter 1957 in Thanet District, Kent, age 88 [CR, JT (says 20 Jan 1953)].

6b. Benjamin White Tinlin.  Born 7 May 1872 in Kilmadock, Perthshire [JT, cen., SCVL].  In 1881 he was living with his parents in Kilmadock [cen.].  In 1891 and 1901 he was living with his parents in Kilmadock, was unmarried, and was working as a blacksmith [cen.].  He died 20 Jan 1953 in Kilmadock and was bur. in the churchyard there [JT, AXT, SCVL].

7b. Alison Tinlin.  Born 11 Jul 1874 in Doune, Kilmadock, Perthshire [JT, cen.].  In 1881 she was living with her parents in Kilmadock [cen.].  In 1891 she was living with her aunt in Falkirk, Stirlingshire [cen., AXT].  In 1901 she was living with her parents in Kilmadock and was unmarried [cen.].  She had natural children in 1911 and 1916 in Govan, Glasgow [their death certs.].  She died 15 Nov 1954 in Kilmadock and was bur. in the churchyard there [JT, AXT, SCVL].  She had natural children:

1c. James Tinlin.  Born c. Aug 1911 in Govan District, Lanarkshire [SCVL (also registered in Kilmadock, Perthshire), death cert.].  He died 19 Jan 1912 at 33 Hamilton Street, Govan, Lanarkshire, age five months [cert.].  On his death certificate, a John Ruddy is listed as his “foster-father” [cert.].

2c. Alison Tinlin.  Born c. Sep 1916 in Govan District, Lanarkshire [SCVL (also registered in Kilmadock, Perthshire), death cert.].  She died of bronchitis on 2 Oct 1916 at 51 Greenfield Street, Govan, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, age one month [cert.].

Agnes Tinlin.  Born c. 1836 in Linton, Roxburghshire [JT, cen.].  In 1841 she was living with her father in Linton Bankhead, Roxburghshire [cen.].  In 1851 she was living with her father in Linton Bankhead working as a house servant [cen.].  In 1857 and 1859 she was living in Linton [IGI].  In 1861 she was living with her father in Linton Bankhead, was unmarried, and was working as a housekeeper [cen.].  She married Robert Rutherford on 9 Oct 1868 in Sprouston, Roxburghshire [JT, IGI].  He was born c. 1841 in Butterlaw (or Swinton), Berwickshire, son of Robert and Isabella Rutherford [cen.].  In 1871 she was living in Sprouston, listed as a joiner's wife, but he was not with her [cen.].  In 1881 they were living in Hedworth Monkton & Jarrow, Durham, and he was working as a joiner [cen.].  In 1891 they were living at 29 Ann Court in the same place, and he was working as a ship joiner [cen. (she is called Agnes Oliver Rutherford)].  She had two natural children before her marriage:
